Surrounded by Silence[edit]

Proposing Deletion for the article: Design the Skyline[edit]

I have opened up a ticket for proposed deletion for this article since it meets none of the Wikipedia Notability Criteria for a Musical Artist or Ensemble. This is a serious issue, and not an act of vandalism to detriment the band. It does not meet any of the 12 points, which is reason to propose deletion.

Article coverage of the band has been trivial and not deemed substantial.
Has not had an album or single on the national music chart.
Has not recieved a certified gold record.
Has not recieved non-trivial coverage due to a music tour.
Has not released 2 or more albums on a major label or notable independent label.
Does not contain 2 or more previously notable musicians.
Has not become a prominent representative of a notable musical genre.
Have not been nominated for a major musical award.
Have not won or placed in a major musical competition.
Have not perfomred music on a work of media that is notable, such as a television show or film.
Have not been placed in rotation nationally by any major radio network.
Have not been featured on a substantial broadcast segment on a national radio or TV network.

Please take these concerns seriously.

I think Design the Skyline is a very unique case that should really combine the rules for posting a musician with the rules for posting an internet meme. I agree as above and even considered placing the Category:Internet memes category on here per the jokes people make about them over Tumblr, 4chan and MetalSucks. Legitimate established metal bands like I Declare War can't have an article, but this joke can? Stuff like this is really hurting Wikipedia. So having a clearly notable band on Wikipedia is hurting it? LOLWTF? This band has reached notability upon several counts in the same sense that Rebecca Black has, tell me, when was the last time I Declare War received coverage from their state newspaper, The Rolling Stone and had three Revolver stories? Suspected bias[edit]

Upon the time I wrote this article, I informed some of the members it was done. Many of them saw it by the time it was established, even the keyboardist was let in on editing for proof checking purposes to keep things factual. I do not hate this band, I may have thought they were ridiculous the first time I viewed the "Surrounded by Silence" video like everyone else, but that only garnered my knowing into how large this group really was getting and put a lot of research into finding out who they were. Just because the lead contains quotes is just to inform the reader of the general thoughts of what the public believed, removing it causes a blinded-out feel for anyone trying to find out why this group is so disliked acumen to a Google search which brings their Wikipedia page as a first result. Quoting is not bias. I restored the revision of the time before this IP had this speculation and made this talk page thread to further stray away from anyone else thinking the same thing (though I doubt that will happen). • GunMetal Angel 18:56, 1 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Experimental metal[edit]

Saying they're 'experimental' would imply an element of avant-garde, which this group doesn't have. Read the description of the experimental/avant-garde metal genre, and tell me whether this band fits that criteria. If this group is experimental, then so is Attack! Attack! or Asking Alexandria. Regardless of whether you think they're good or bad, you have got to be honest, they're just metalcore/deathcore/post-hardcore with electronic keyboards and samples. There's nothing new or experimental about that. It's pretty common and generic really. 'Mathcore' might be justified - although their debut album lacked any of the odd time signatures or polyrhythmic elements found on their early work - but that's been, for well over a decade, a fully established genre, so it's also not experimental. Unless someone can give a reliable citation for the 'experimental' tag that isn't a self-published source, i.e. the band themselves or Victory Records, then I suggest it be taken down.86.174.131.73 (talk) 17:11, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article for avant-garde says "Though there is no convention or criteria to exactly define the genre, some experimentation in the music is generally a major criteria to define the genre." So you're wrong. I also agree, because of the unique basslines and Synths, I would classify the band as Experimental metal. Now I know that people are probably going to say I'm biased or whatever, but no bias, because to be honest, the first time I viewed Surronded by Silence on youtube I thought "Gee this bands sucks" but their new material is okay I guess — Preceding unsigned comment added by DeanBaetz (talk • contribs) 01:12, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

D00m vs. Doom[edit]

Coming here from WP:BLP/N I have to say, it doesn't matter what 'numerous searches' show. What we need are actual reliable sources. The record label although a primary source is probably acceptable in the absence of anything else so doom seems fair for now. A twitter post from a verified account where he indicates his preference would be a better primary source and also acceptable. The twitter account name is clearly NOT a reliable source for anything except the account name itself since there are many different reasons why an account name may be chosen, personal preference is only one of them.
