"Spheres" - perhaps "Sirens"?[edit]

I was just listening to the recording "Invocation for Judgement Against and Destruction of Rock Music" mentioned in this article (which is sampled by the song that the article is about). The article gives a list of some of the artists mentioned in "Invocation for Judgement Against and Destruction of Rock Music", and lists one of them as:

It didn't sound like "Spheres" to me (although it's certainly one of the least clear ones). It sounded to me like "Seerins", "Seer" rhyming with "Sphere" and followed by a quick "ins". I was guessing that perhaps it was a mispronunciation of "Sirens" (the man doing the invoking mispronounced several things), and looked for a group of that name from the time. I didn't find one, but I did find Siren, which was a band that Andy Summers was in before The Police. As the Invocation mentions both the Police and specifically Andy Summers (but not specifically Sting or Stewart Copeland), I thought perhaps this was what was intended.

The list has huge names and obscure names interspersed, and it randomly jumps genres drastically (e.g. "... Donna Summer, Dean Martin, Kiss, ..."), and it seems like the guy invoking isn't necessarily very familiar with the names he's reading. So it seems pretty scattershot, and I wouldn't be surprised if Andy Summers somehow got on it and pulled associated acts, without regard for whether they're huge (the Police) or obscure (Siren). Nor would I be surprised if "Siren" became "Sirens" when put on the list, as whoever made it didn't really seem familiar with the subjects, nor terribly concerned with exactitude (e.g. "Jack Cougar Mellencamp").

Anwyway, I don't know that it's referring to Siren, but that was my guess. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rwv37 (talkcontribs) 23:34, 7 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

On the reissued version of the album, which has a re-recorded vocal, he does say “Siren”. On the original version, I can hear “Seer-rens” so you may be justified! Systemr2000 (talk) 17:34, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
