Bulger meeting[edit]

In my edit summary I said that Patrick met with Deval a "few weeks ago". This was a typo, as the meeting was a few months ago. I'm somewhat new to this and wasn't able to find a way to edit my edit summary....so basically this is for clarification sake.

Unfair Edits[edit]

Why did someone delete this? Because it was "undue weight" and something about "synthesis." I regard this interpretation as basically without any foundation. If The New York Times sees fit to connect Patrick's cutbacks to these kinds of incidents then why does some unknown Wikipedia reviewer's views of the connection matter more? I think the reason is that the editing process is completely arbitrary here. If you can provide a substantial reason for why this is "undue weight," then kindly let me know. Why if the Times gives it weight, can't Wikipedia?

Deval Patrick has been linked to favoring the kind of budget cutbacks that have put healthcare workers at risk in his state. In one case, The New York Times suggested, a slain healthcare professional, Stephanie Moulton, was working a shift alone when murdered. She was murdered in January 2011. The Times reported that this "occurred days before Gov. Deval Patrick, a Democrat, released his proposed budget, which would slash mental health spending for the third year in a row. And it raised the timely but uncomfortable question of whether such continuous belt-tightening had played a role in Ms. Moulton’s death." [37] Yet, the Moutlon case was not an isolated fluke or unpredictable event. The Salem News on January 21, 2011 reported that: "Moulton's death highlights the dangers that mental health counselors can face. Three years ago, a 53-year-old social worker from Wilmington died at the hands of one of her patients during a visit to his North Andover apartment, according to authorities."[38] Given the greater probability of safety for healthcare workers if money is expended for needed security, the dealth of the Wilmington healthcare worker suggested an underinvestment in security. Yet, rather than increase investments in security, Patrick has cut mental healthcare spending repeatedly.

That is the most ludicrous thing I have read this week on Wikipedia - over and above the fuss over the climate change denier that hit the mass media earlier. First of all, the initial complaint is regarding health care cuts made by a Democratic governor. Not a Republican - not a Tea Bagger - but a DEMOCRATIC governor. Then it becomes apparent that the "undue weight" complaint is because the New York Times is considered "too controversial". Really?? The New York Times??? Finally - the punch line - some rightwingnut thinks the New York times is a "leftist" publication. WOW. Some of you Yanks are real wack jobs. Can't wait to see how the masses vote today and get a good chuckle at the media circus that follows trying to explain "why". Respectfully, one of your northern neighbours. Biased use of the term "attack ad", poll results outdated[edit]

Latest poll number of the 2010 election show Baker at 34% and Patrick at 35%, this should be updated.

The use of the phrase "despite attack ads from Baker" is biased and should be removed. Patrick has statically run more attack ads than Baker and this phrase implies Baker is the only one running ads.

page needs to be moved[edit]

P.B.S. Pinchback[edit]

There needs to be a change in the lede's first paragraph. P.B.S. Pinchback was not elected governor of Louisianna, rather, he succeeded into the governor's office as Lieut. Gov. in December 1872 after Gov. Warmoth was impeached. Pinchback then was the first African American to serve as Governor. Gov. Patrick then was the first African American to be elected to governor's office. This information needs to be put into the article's lede. Cmguy777 (talk) 02:15, 31 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Reform welfare access to cash[edit]

The story says Patrick is a considered a possible nominee to succeed the U.S. attorney general.

The story quotes Patrick in a paraphrase. The story says: Patrick has said he would not take up any such position as long as he remains Governor.

That sentence is nonsensical. Does it mean to say that Patrick would commit to filling out his term as governor?

No, that is not what it says.

By the way it's worded in the story, Patrick could be nominated as attorney general, be confirmed as attorney general, and resign immediately as governor. So, he would be taking the position and he would not be the governor.

In other words, quoting Patrick as saying that he would not take up any such position as long as he remains governor is what we call double-speak.

Mitt Romney reference[edit]

Mitt Romney didn't seek reelection to focus on running for president? That is a generous conclusion. He did not run again because he was massively unpopular and would have lost. In 2020, Patrick launched TogetherFUND, a political action committee that supported Joe Biden's campaign for President, Democratic nominees for the United States Senate and House in swing states or districts, and grassroots groups committed to engaging disenfranchised and marginalized voters. In 2021, as co-chair of American Bridge 21st Century, Patrick launched BridgeTogether, an initiative aimed at supporting grassroots organizing beyond election cycles. He is also co-chair of the COVID Collaborative and the Future of Tech Commission.
