Orchard Centre[edit]

British Airways Flight 5390[edit]

Exciting though this aerial episode may be, it has absolutely no practical relevance to the town of Didcot, and I suggest it (perhaps like Didcot) should be deleted. Jezza 21:12, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Greenpeace[edit]

History[edit]

Updating[edit]

I'm quite rusty at using this html thing, so i'm wondering if someone could tell if there is a button to put everything simply? I couldn't find any tutorial pages, as i was going to update the local village pages in southern Oxfordshire. having just a lonely paragraph doesn't look too impressive, also how do you make the table like in the Didcot page to the right? --Halowithhorns89 14:07, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Association with WilliamsF1[edit]

Just speaking as a complete and utter outsider to this whole area of the United Kingdom, never mind Didcot... it does strike me as peculiar for no mention to have been made within this article at all of the former site of the Williams Grand Prix team, as yet. Is it even still functioning in any capacity at all, for example, about a decade, give or take a few years, after the pensioning off of their Renault British Touring Car Championship project? By all means, to a mere avidly motorsport-mad native of Middlesbrough... do tell! MRacer 23:43, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Williams premises used from 1976 (three adjacent units, nos. 9-11 in Station Road Industrial Estate) have been obliterated, and the site is entirely occupied by part of Sainsbury's car park; however, Multimap's aerial photos were taken at the time that units 11 & 12 were being demolished (August 2003); unit 10 is circled. The second premises (Basil Hill Road) are still there (see Multimap), and are occupied by various businesses; one that I know of is called Paradigm; they distribute barcode printers and readers. Possible copyright violation[edit]

The first, third and fourth paragraphs of The Railways section of this article were exactly the same as the http://www.didcot.co.uk/History--didcot.htm page on the http://www.didcot.co.uk/ website, whose owners prohibit reproduction of their material: http://www.didcot.co.uk/Terms_Of_Usage.htm Clearly one is copied from the other. They are not exactly the same any more, as I slightly amended the Wikipedia version before I realised that copying had taken place. However, the similarity is still close enough to be plagiarism. Current developments[edit]

The county boundary changes in 1974 were 37 years ago, so I'm not sure what makes them current :) The changes have already been mentioned in the opening para of the article too. I've deleted them from 'Current developments' and added part to the opening paragraph of the article.

The Cornserstone arts centre is also an important recent addition for Didcot (and Oxfordshire) so I've added a paragraph about it. Sionk (talk) 03:21, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

'Feel' of the town[edit]

I live locally and it strikes me that the article makes no mention of the fact that it's pretty grim - in my opinion at least. The fact that the architecture is unremarkable (apart from the obvious exception of the cooling towers) probably doesn't help. Obviously sentiment like this has no place in an encyclopaedic article, but I notice that Slough does have section on the town's negative perception. Would it be appropriate to reference an article like this which notes that Didcot was featured in a book called "Crap Towns"? Yes, the Didcot Herald is what we call a secondary source, so is permissible as a reference source, whereas the book "Crap Towns" is a primary source, so is not. Film studio not in Didcot[edit]

Mountaincirque, re your addition: the former Daily Mail printing works being converted to a film studio is not in Didcot (although it might have a Didcot postal address). The coordinates are 51°37′11″N 1°16′37″W / 51.6198°N 1.2770°W / 51.6198; -1.2770: it's among the collection of industrial units tucked in between the power station and Milton Park, but is technically in Harwell parish. Also, it's not "on the site of" - they're using the actual building. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 20:34, 11 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Redrose64, thanks, you're right, I will make some tweaks. I have found a link to the detail of the closure of the factory: [1] and a case study from when it was built and the name used throughout is 'Didcot'. However, you have made a very valid point, in fact though due to a boundary change noted here [2], it seems that land north of the railway is now part of Sutton Courtenay parish (?). This is similar of course to the 'Didcot' power stations. Mountaincirque 09:52, 12 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
