The situation with regard to this toponym is completely confused. As far as I can tell, the borough spells it Dollard-des-Ormeaux (which is how the former city spelled it as well), the Commission de Toponymie spells it Dollard-Des Ormeaux (from the rules on dealing with nobility particles in names, such as that of Adam Dollard, sieur des Ormeaux), and the city of Montreal can't make up its mind between Des-Ormeaux and Des Ormeaux.

Until these people get their wits together, I'm going to leave this puppy right where it is. The borough won't exist five months from now, anyway, and we can use whatever spelling the new municipality prefers. - Montréalais 07:48, 3 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
