(June 7, 2013) Edit dispute: Recording date[edit]

I have noticed that there has been an edit war over the recording period of the album's recording. There has been three motions-

  1. Not to put a recording date because the information is unsourced. - Status, Hahc21
  2. Use the 2009-13 date for the year "Love the Way You Lie (Part III)" was recorded. - STATicVerseatide
  3. Use the 2010-13 date for the year the sessions for Invinsible / Don't Look Down started.

My personal opinion on the matter is it can be either option 1 or 2. I support option 1 more because of the fact that we honestly don't know when the rest of the album was recorded. The fact that "Love the Way You Lie (Part III)" is on the album in the first place can mean that some songs on this album may have been recorded around the same time, if not, earlier than the 2009 recording, but that's a vauge opinion, seeing as nearly all the songs besides "Love the Way You Lie (Part III)" and "C'mon Let Me Ride" on the album sound like they were produced in the same session. Option 3 is out of the question because we should use the earliest known date, unless we can specify the album's recording in the "Recording" section of the article. Unfortunately, there isn't such information to inherit a "Recording" section, so option 3 out. That's my opinion.

As far as I know, my position is that of Status: not to put a recording date because the information is unsourced. — ΛΧΣ21 08:48, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

So if it sourced that LTWYL Part III was recorded in 2009 in the Skylar Grey and Love the Way You Lie pages, and the album was not released until this week is it basically common sense that during the meantime the album was recorded. There is no source saying that the album finished recording in 2011 or 2012 because that does not make any sense. My only reason for readding the information is to keep the Release history link in the infobox as it could be confusing to readers on the date the album was released in their country (I assume most readers are from the US as she is not that big of an international act). STATic message me! 15:25, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It is not correct to assume that. Skylar may have recorded more songs before Love The Way You Lie, which are included on this album. Or maybe she recorded songs well before 2009 that were shelved from this album. Unless the artist explicitly states when they started recording the album, the field must be kept empty. However, you can add "See Release history" to the field to point readers to the relevant section. — ΛΧΣ21 15:54, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That was the entire point of the edit, but you and Status kept removing it without giving a reason. Eitherway, she was signed to the record label in 2009 or 2010 so it is safe to say she did not record and shelve any material from way before (even before a name change). On a side note this article is practically a stub, if there was more content in it this whole thing probably would not even be an issue. STATic message me! 16:19, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I agree I shoulnd't have reverted all the content, and I apologize. Therefore, I support the addition of "See Release history" to the field, although we may still need to discuss if putting a year there is wise or not. We shall better try to find a ref where she says when she actually started recording the album before making our personal assumptions :) — ΛΧΣ21 17:32, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, "See Release history" appears in the release section, which is fine. Now we need to solve the matter of adding, or not, a year. 17:34, 8 July 2013 (UTC)

Skylar has been working on music for years and years. Some of this stuff could date back to 2008 for heaven's sakes, we have no idea! There is no "common sense" or "assumptions" in this at all. SOURCES.  — Statυs (talk, contribs) 22:40, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

And where is your source that the music on the album dates back that far? But we do have sources that say music was recorded in 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013. STATic message me! 22:59, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
We have sources that music was recorded in 2009, etc; but we don't have sources saying that music for this album was recorded in 2009, 2010, etc. — ΛΧΣ21 23:17, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Static, can you provide us with the sources that music was recorded in 2011, 2012 and 2013 for this album? The only source for "Love the Way You Lie" being recorded in 2009 is on that article, and not this one, irregardless. Also per Template:Infobox album, only the first date should be in the infobox, and not any of this "see release history" nonsense (we got rid of that a looooooong time ago.  — Statυs (talk, contribs) 00:06, 9 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
So you are suggesting that the album consists entirely of music that was recorded prior to her signing to Interscope Records in 2010? If the album was released this year after its original announcement in 2011 (according to sources in the article), that means recording was going on in the meantime, or do you not understand anything about music? She did not release any mixtapes, EP, compilations, not even that many collaborations, so that means recording was all going towards this album. Unless you are implying she did not record a single bit of this album in the any of those years, I do not feel like explaining how making an album works.

Yes that is why the first date is there, and there is a link to the release history section so it will not confuse readers. Recent discussions have supported using it and it is used in many GAs. Nonsense? Come on it does nothing to make the article look any worse than it already does. STATic message me! 00:54, 9 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I think you need to watch yourself with the personal digs. The bottom is line there is no source the album was recorded between 2009–2013 (where is the source she even continued recording the album this year?)  — Statυs (talk, contribs) 05:08, 9 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
And a correction, she released an EP in 2012 called The Buried Sessions of Skylar Grey.  — Statυs (talk, contribs) 05:11, 9 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No personal digs, you just need to WP:AGF more often from the beginning something I have noticed you have a problem with. Also that is a compilation EP compiled from various material over the years, rather than her going into the studio with the intention of recording an EP. Either way I do not really care anyways, so we do not need to keep discussing this molehill you decided to turn into a mountain. STATic message me! 06:58, 9 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
