Freedom of speech / suspension of student[edit]

A Canadian student has been suspended from school and reported to the police for having created satirical animations and posted them on YouTube. The videos were created in his own time, off-campus.

This interesting decision by the school board, which has implicitly assumed a right to monitor and intervene in the out-of-school activities of its students has been picked up by the press, e.g. in this report in The Register - http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/06/03/canadian_student_suspended_for_youtube_videos/.

The matter raises interesting questions about the authority of a school board and the Canadian principle of freedom of speech. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.179.5.27 (talk) 11:31, 5 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
