Pop Culture/Trivia

The section is very long and contains a lot of non-essential information. We should look at pairing it down and reformatting it into a more useful and informative style. Beatdown (talk) 12:59, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

Screech Powers

The show characterized the genius Howser as a normal teenager, rather than having the stereotypical traits of TV "nerds" like Screech Powers (from Saved by the Bell) or Steve Urkel (from Family Matters).

Doogie Howser Wiki

There is a specialized wiki, doogiehowser.wikia.com, hosted at wikia.com that could really use your help. A lot of things are already setup on there to be expanded upon, most of the technical stuff is out of the way, and it is being actively maintained and cleaned up... by ME! -DougCube (talk) 07:04, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Tense (is vs. was)

Defending revert... I feel that it should be 'was' since it was over with so long ago and to the best of my knowledge it is no longer broadcasted anywhere. Clearly, at least one person felt the same way I do. -DougCube (talk) 08:30, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

It isn't related to whether or not the show is still being aired, only to the fact that it exists as a creative work. Thus, DH "is" a television series that "aired" (past tense). This is standard with all articles about television series, and also extends to other creative works. Hope this helps. --Ckatzchatspy 08:43, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

External Links

I think that you were too quick to pull a majority of the links. I read over Wikipedia:EL, and wasn't sure which point you are using. Please clarify. I might have been okay if it was just one link gone, but this seemed a bit hasty. -DougCube (talk) 08:30, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia isn't a directory service; we generally avoid links to fan sites. Again, this is common to all television articles. --Ckatzchatspy 08:44, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
Sure, fan sites would be bad. But I don't any of those links qualify as 'fan site' for this purpose.
For the first link (which was there before I edited), I consider as extra reference (epguides.com and IMDB are commonly used for tv articles I thought).
The second link is to jumptheshark.com (there before I edited), which is a popular site for out-dated shows like this, as an interesting source of community analysis.
I added the third link, because it simply replaces the one I removed as it's more accurate. Having such a journal entry collection is unique to this show, and I naturally assume that many people would seek such information if they stumble upon this page.
The fourth link, is a bit shameless I admit, but objectively there are tons of external wiki links for TV shows. Smallville links to its wikia, usually I find a link on Stargate:SG1 and one SG:A (it changes a lot), Heroes has one, and Battlestar Galactica's link few would object to. It's a start-up wiki, but there are no other wikis on it out there, so the link provides a good outlet for people that would like to contribute information to it, and you gotta start somewhere... I was hoping you'd pick a specific subsection of Wikipedia:EL that proves your correct definitively (which you maybe and probably are due to your experience). I still think it's fine with WP:ELYES or at least WP:ELMAYBE. It has interest and merit for *wiki contributors*, people who want to contribute, but wikipedia is not the right place or not yet the right place to do so on this topic. -DougCube (talk) 10:12, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Syndication

Why was the syndication info I put on this page last month removed? There was nothing wrong with it. Please give an explanation when editing from now on in the summary field. Thanks. ChrisJsc (talk) 22:02, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
