Dry cask storage[edit]

Removed annoying reference to the nuclear fuel cycle redirect when clicking on the spent nuclear fuel link, people want to know what spent nuclear fuel is, not the whole deal about the nuclear fuel cycle! - Vinycard (Not signed in)

Globalize[edit]

If you can, please add some info on European, Asian, etc. sites and experiences. -- 217.190.216.33 (talk) 16:47, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cooling[edit]

Please can someone explain the process of cooling the fuel rods before they go into dry storage. Why are power stations leaving the rods in cooling ponds for years. Do the rods still produce heat after a year in pools? Where does the heat go once in dry storage? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.145.209.61 (talk) 18:31, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Spent nuclear fuel has a account of the different radioisotopes in spent fuel and some indication of how it decreases with time. The short lived radioisotopes decay away in 5 years, leaving Cs-137 and Sr-90 with approximately 30 year half lives as the main heat generators. The fuel is sealed in cans and the cans are cooled by passive air convection. Paul Studier (talk) 23:47, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Two sections for the US[edit]

There seems to be listing for both US, and United states right next to each other that I'd imagine should be joined. I'm too sleep deprived to attempt it but if someone could look into it, it would be clearer I think. 72.251.19.23 (talk) 14:08, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
