When does it really open?

The [citation needed] template was replaced today with a good reference - straight from the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. Thanks, MistaTee. But, this brings up an odd question. The two references are at odds with each other: reference 1, the front page of the site, cites an opening date of 2016. Reference 2, which is the specific page for the station, cites TBD as the opening date. Which is correct? --Tim Sabin (talk) 01:00, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

I received this email from Marcia Mcallister about this matter:

All of Phase II opens in 2016. Thanks.

This means that MistaTee's reference is right, and the information on the station pages is out-of-date. --Tim Sabin (talk) 16:42, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

Move discussion in progress

There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Route 772 (WMATA station) which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 19:30, 23 December 2014 (UTC)

Requested move 21 October 2022

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: no consensus. Has been relisted twice, with reasonable arguments on both stances, this is likely premature, if ever justified. COMMONNAME usually overrules OFFICIALNAME, but neither was particularly convincing to naive participants here. (closed by non-admin page mover) — Shibbolethink ( ) 18:18, 15 November 2022 (UTC)

Dulles International Airport stationWashington Dulles International Airport stationMetro has finally released their new official map with the stations of the Silver Line listed, and "Washington Dulles International Airport" is the formal name of the station. Much like Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport station, the Dulles station page should be reflective of what it is officially called by Metro. • The WP:COMMONNAME is arguably more important than the official name. -Kj cheetham (talk) 20:38, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
This is a revert of an undiscussed move back in 2015. --Ahecht (TALK

I had a look, it was actually moved 5 times in 2015. Dr. Vogel (talk) 13:17, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
It is in fact policy to prefer a common name to an official one. Andrewa (talk) 02:23, 6 November 2022 (UTC)
  • Weak support/maaaaybe too soon since it's not open/used yet to know what will happen. It is likely most people in verbal conversations will just say "Dulles" or "Dulles Airport" (or, honestly, "IAD") when referring to this station just as people say just "Georgia Ave" and "King St". It also seems that local reliable media has begun shifting to primarily using "Washington Dulles International Airport station" at first/primary mentinon. Skynxnex (talk) 23:57, 4 November 2022 (UTC)
  • Oppose. We should have a redirect from the proposed name and already do, but the current name is unambiguous and trivially more concise so there is no call to lengthen it. The official name does not come into it, other than making the redirect from it necessary. I note also that by the target history there have been several bold moves. Hopefully this RM will lead to stability. Andrewa (talk) 02:21, 6 November 2022 (UTC)
  • Support WMATA does have it named as "Washington Dulles International Airport" here. I would say give it time at first though. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DCTransitFilms (talkcontribs) 14:28, 6 November 2022 (UTC)
  • Support for the same reasons as DCTransitFilms stated above SteelersDiclonious (talk) 16:01, 6 November 2022 (UTC)
  • Oppose - no evidence that the proposed name is the more WP:COMMONNAME for the station. And the current is also more WP:CONCISE.  — Amakuru (talk) 15:22, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
  • Oppose per Andrewa. The present name is sufficiently precise, and without speculating too much, presumably the common name will be "Dulles" once it opens (as it is for the associated airport). PlanetJuice (talkcontribs) 21:56, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
