The Boar of Dunadd[edit]

I've heard a rumour that the boar got 'touched up' a bit by the Victorians to make it look more boarish, but that a photograph exists of what it looked like before they messed with it. Anyone know anything more about that? Candle-ends 02:40, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dunadd Castle[edit]

Dunadd Castle was where kings of the old Scottish kingdom of Dál Riata were crowned for centuries This priceless snippet was lurking in the Kilmory Castle article. Putting it here just in case it has any merit for inclusion. Is it ever referred to as 'Dunadd Castle'? ::Supergolden:: 12:31, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not a castle that I know of, just a hill fort. The article mentions the presumed coronation rituals at Dunadd. I don't think there's any firm evidence that kings were made there ("crowned" is very unlikely), but that's what is assumed by the experts. On pp. 18–19 of Ewan Campbell's Saints and Sea-kings there is an illustration by David Hogg showing a reconstruction of how he and Campbell think an inauguration at Dunadd would have looked. Cheers ! Donald[edit]

Does anybody know if there is an etymological connection between Dunadd and Donal / Donald? Chienlit (talk) 13:43, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
