[moved from article to talk page] Correction: Apparently a bot deleted my last one, so... The Duncan Canal is not also known as the West Return Canal that I am aware of. The Duncan Canal lies approximately two miles inside Jefferson Parish in the city of Kenner. It runs from Lake Ponchartrain to just beyond 32nd street where it terminates, (ironically enough,) at Duncan Street. The photo and description above are of the St Cahrles Outflow Canal and should not be confused with the Duncan Canal which has been behind my home for over thirty years and actually rose over its banks and entered my home during Hurricane Katrina.

The link below to Wikimedia Commons sends you to a page of 12 photographs of the St Charles Outflow Canal, not the Duncan Canal. This article must have been written by someone not from the area.

Infrogmation replies[edit]

I started the article; I'm not from Kenner, I'm over in New Orleans. The Rand Mc Nally New Orleans Street Map 2004 I have in front of me clearly labels the canal at the Jefferson/St Charles Parish line "Duncan Canal", as do other maps and sources I checked. Some older maps also list the same feature as "West Return Canal".

Sometimes local usage and official names vary; sometimes professional mapmakers get things wrong. If you have better information, you are encouraged to provide it; please give sources or other confirming information if possible.

...And now I see that according to the map mentioned above that there are apparently multiple canals called "Duncan Canal"! I see the one I presume you're refering to that connects with Lake Pontchartrain just west of the Pontchartrain Center, the one at the Jeff/St. Charles line, and a third one in St. Charles Parish off at an angle from the second all labeled "Duncan Canal"! The '06 edition of Rand McNally labels the three identically. A "Universal Map" from 2000 labeles the canal at the Parish line as "Duncan Canal" and gives no name for the others.
