Age?[edit]

Was he born in 1979? He said during a TV interview last week (The New Paul O'Grady Show, June 7th) that he was 28, which would mean he would have been born in 1978. Crisso 17:21, 12 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There's currently an interview/article with James on BBC Ceefax which gives his age as 28, as does this article [1] at Sunday Life. I think I'm just about equipt with sufficient info to change his birth year on here to 1978. Crisso 12:49, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That makes sense--after looking around, I can't find any other reliable source--only a fansite or two, and the BBC would outrank any of those. Nice work with math, by the way... Kingka 01:10, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
This article [2] says he was born in 1978. I don't think we should have any doubt that that is the correct year. Crisso 22:28, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
His birth was registed in 1978. I just checked :) -- AnemoneProjectors (talk) 00:36, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In an interview (in the Tv, last week) he said that he's in love with Janaina Carolina Maria Harbeck Pareira Da Silva.

Who is she? did you see her in a magazine? because me not i´d like to see a picture of her!!

Duncan is born in 1979 i know it because it is written in the book his mum wrote!!!!

She obviously doesn't know when her own son was born then because his birth was officially registered in 1978. — AnemoneProjectors (talk) 20:57, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think his mother knows better than any body else so you can check her book if you don´t believe me! where have you checked it?

The civil registry for births in England in 1978 - Duncan Inglis is listed. — AnemoneProjectors (talk) 19:20, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

hy have you read in an interview he told he is becoming 30 next month.

That would make him born in 1977! He was born in 1978. — AnemoneProjectors (talk) 20:20, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The interview you are referring to was one in which he said that he was giving himself 12 months to find a partner, and that 30 would be a good time to settle down with someone. He was born in '78, and will be 30 next April.

Refer to him as James[edit]

Why does this article refer to him as inglis, no one knows him as that, His stage name is Duncan james, why not refer to him as james or duncan? I never see madonna being referred to as ciccone in her article, its confusing and stupid —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.201.234.124 (talk) 12:00, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism[edit]

Thanks AnemoneProjectors. Shall we semi-protect this page for a bit so only signed in users can make changes? Might stop some of the homophobic vandalism that we're currently getting. Contaldo80 (talk) 12:43, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The vandalism hasn't been too heavy at the moment, so just continue to revert (and issue warnings) for now, and see how it goes. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 12:54, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
4 times in as many days - and some of it quite childish and nasty. But willing to take your suggestion that we hold off for a little while longer. Contaldo80 (talk) 12:59, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Link doesn't support article text.[edit]

The article currently says that he "was raised primarily by his mother and grandparents after his father abandoned his mother before he was born" with a reference to an Observer article which says only that he "was essentially brought up by them [his grandparents]". The Observer article says nothing about his mother or his father.

If the article is going to talk about his early family life, it needs a much better reference than that. --Kay Dekker (talk) 20:48, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

BLP sourcing[edit]

WP:EGRS and WP:BLPCAT state that information about a subject's sexuality should only be noted if it notable to their public life and that it is self-identified. There is no valid source currently given in this article for this, only a deadlink to a weak source. The Bisexual categories were also removed for this reason. I have previously stated these reasons in edit summaries. As a BLP we must be extra careful. Span (talk) 06:42, 5 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Eversman, you replaced the defunct News of the World source with a Daily Mail cite during your revert, I see. I would still suggest that his sexuality not relevant to his public life and therefore should not be mentioned in a BLP. Span (talk) 07:28, 5 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree as you should read WP:EGRS more carefully, where you will find; Categories regarding sexual orientation of a living person should not be used unless the subject has publicly self-identified with the belief or orientation in question (see WP:BLPCAT). Since Duncan James self-identified as a bisexual, I don't see any problem to state his sexuality in a BLP. And deadlink is not the reason for you to remove verifiable information, it's just not.--Eversman (talk) 15:34, 5 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please read the rest of WP:EGRS:
"As to the inclusion of people in a ethnicity, gender, religion, or sexuality related category, please remember that inclusion must be based on reliable sources. For example: regardless of whether you have personal knowledge of a notable individual's sexual orientation, the article should only be added to a LGBT-related category after verifiable, reliable published sources have been provided in the article that support the inclusion."
WP:BLPCAT says
"Categories regarding religious beliefs or sexual orientation should not be used unless the subject has publicly self-identified with the belief or orientation in question, and the subject's beliefs or sexual orientation are relevant to their notable activities or public life, according to reliable published sources."
On the basis that there was no verifiable or reliable source given then it was entirely apt to delete the information about his sexuality and remove the deadlink. Such unsourced info should not remain extant for any time, in a BLP particularly as it maybe libellous:
WP:BLP:
"Editors must take particular care when adding information about living persons to any Wikipedia page. Such material requires a high degree of sensitivity... We must get the article right. Be very firm about the use of high quality sources... Contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced—whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable—should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion. Users who constantly or egregiously violate this policy may be blocked from editing. Biographies of living persons (BLPs) must be written conservatively and with regard for the subject's privacy."
In terms of WP:BLPCAT (above) there is nothing to suggest that James' sexual preferences are notable to his public life and therefore, in my view, the detail should be removed. The point is to do the best by the article not to win the argument. Span (talk) 18:59, 5 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Duncan's coming out is discussed in all sorts of different sources. Is the Guardian considered reliable enough for you? http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2009/jul/14/duncan-james-blue-bisexual RafikiSykes (talk) 19:51, 13 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in Duncan James[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Duncan James's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 17:24, 24 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
