DK1 vs DK2

I would really like to help in adding things to this page. I'm quite fond of this game, and I'm also currently replaying it, so it is fresh in my mind. However, I've never played the original Dungeon Keeper, only this one, so I can't make any comparisons in the article between the two versions. I would be able to help in adding creature, room, and spell lists, but I'm not sure if I should add all the available creatures/rooms/spells, or if I should only add the ones which are new to DK2. Without knowing what was/wasn't in the first game, I would have to rely on the DK1 article or other websites in order to figure out what to add/not add if we are to go with the latter option. Thoughts? FAE 01:27, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

When I writing in Russian wiki article about DK2, I too no played first DK :). So, take a look ;).
I've found two veeeery old cites: http://dk.despayre.org/ and http://www.geocities.com/dungkeep/dungkeep.html ( 8) wow, welcome back to disco '90). And, of course, http://www.keeperklan.tk and also http://dungeon-keeper.com/ --Winterheart 16:55, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

--- Hmm...I'll share my opinions of the games.

I have played both games, DK1 being a real classic for me. Really I have always prefered the first, although reading its article I found there were things I still didn't know. I actually much prefer the old 2D creatures compared to the 3D graphics in DK2, which were still a bit too poor quality to really look good. DK2 made many good changes and new stuff like mana, the heart mini tresury and cool rooms like the casino, but there is just something DK2 seems to lack compared to the original. Im unsure of whether this is something that could be in the article.

Also I can't stand the newer horned reaper or 'horny'. :( Sure the summoning thing is a good idea, but he just looks kinda weird, as opposed to the (very moody) rampageing monster I loved from the first game. Damn, I sound like some old die hard clinging to 'the good old days'; I'm only 18. :\

Keeper Klan

Keeper Klan (http:// www.keeperklan.tk) is the only active Dungeon Keeper 2 clan around. It is the only (I repeat) clan. A clan being a group who plays the game online and discusses it et cetera. Please can someone stop editing the links section and erasing this indisputable fact! - Alex J.

The problem is more that it's a timing thing. We don't want to have to modify the page once someone decides to start a clan. It's not needed.
Actually you'll find this clan has been around for nearly 3 years. I put the link on Wikipedia ages ago. All I want to do is edit it slightly. To reiterate: it is the only DK2 clan and it is the largest and most prosperous DK community. Can't you grant me this one little thing? Or must Wikipedia and it's users create such a bad name for themselves?
Patrician41189: Someone is editing the link to Keeper Klan without Wikipedia's or Dungeon Keeper 2's benefit in mind. By repeatedly deleting the KK link and editing it to: "an active DK site etc..." they're abusing this free system. I have an idea who is doing this, and would like to ask someone with authority to stop them from doing it. Thanks for your time!
I'd like to thank the Wiki editors for not removing the KK link. (at time of posting) Thanks guys! :) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 86.133.3.89 (talk) 20:45, 13 February 2007 (UTC).
I'm not sure what the general consensus here is, but the completely unprofessional look of the Keeper Klan website, the numerous ads, and the pages which simply say "insert text" makes for a site that really just looks like some kid's geocities homepage rather than a resource that can expand on the encyclopedic knowledge of this article. I personally won't edit it out, but this really has no place on Wikipedia. It should be removed permanently in accordance with the following official Wikipedia policies outlined here. Specifically, "Links Normally to be Avoided" #1 (Any site that does not provide a unique resource beyond what the article would contain if it became a Featured article.), #5 (Links to sites with objectionable amounts of advertising.), and the guidelines mentioned at "What to Link" ( 1. Articles about any organization, person, web site, or other entity should link to the official site if any. 1. For albums, movies, books, and other creative works, links to professional reviews. 2. An article about a book, a musical score, or some other media should link to a site hosting a copy of the work if none of the "Links normally to be avoided" criteria apply. 3. Sites that contain neutral and accurate material that cannot be integrated into the Wikipedia article due to copyright issues, amount of detail (such as professional athlete statistics, movie or television credits, interview transcripts, or online textbooks) or other reasons. 4. Sites with other meaningful, relevant content that is not suitable for inclusion in an article, such as reviews and interviews.) Since the "Keeper Klan" link is none of these four things, and is contrary to the policy regarding what's to be avoided, it should be deleted if this article is to fit in with Wikipedia's official policy. Again, I am not personally going to edit it out, but to those who object to the idea that it should be removed, keep in mind that whether or not you enjoy or participate in the Keeper Klan is irrelevant when you consider that it's clearly in violation of the policy.
Number 3 of the 'What to link' states that websites that have neutral: "interview transcripts" that are exclusive to that site can be linked to, well Keeperklan.tk has an interview with one of the designers of the original who talks about Dungeon Keeper 2, and it is exclusive to Keeper Klan. The forum is the most active Dungeon Keeper 2 forum around, and if you received the emails and feedback on the lines of: "Wow! People still play this game!? I'm so glad to find this forum" then maybe you'd retract your lengthy, eloquent, yet aloof critique of Keeper Klan. I shall change the link from the geocities site to the forum, which contains info, downloads and discussion about Dungeon Keeper 2 that is valuable to any DK2 player, and a lot of which is exclusive to Keeper Klan Forum. When the new site is ready I shall link to it. Thanks for your belligerance, I'm sure your mother is very proud! ;) Lord Sepulchrave 17:08, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
Is it a nice feeling being that smug with yourself?

I came to Wikipedia hoping for a link to a d2 page that would help fix my (numerous) and bog standard problems with this game (unfixed by patches: e.g. CANT play multiplayer. Cant get certain creatures on certain levels, and more). Thanks to Wikipedia I got linked through to the Keeper Klan which has a tone of useful info (it seems). Anyone wanting to take the link out either doesn't understand the game (problems), or is plain mean spirited! I am not affiliated with anyone (Except my imps :P) as at time of posting. So I guess Im trying to say "please leave their site link in - its helpful" ~Luke. p.s. yes I am a wiki-noob so if I've typed this text in the wrong place then... sorry ~Luke

Thanks for your support Luke! :) Lord Sepulchrave 14:00, 3 August 2007 (UTC) (Patrician)

Just to clarify, the real "meat" is on their forum. :) The site is in progress. Keep this link in! ~Luke 16 Sept '07

The site has been "in progress" for many years. "In progress" is pretty much patrician way of saying "Never to be completed" (Ps: I'm also a wiki newb, so don't get pissed if I did something wrong.) ~Duke_Jebawe —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.49.89.51 (talk) 06:03, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

Windows XP SP2

I don't think this game runs with SP2. --BarkerJr 01:39, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
ALthough media is listed as 2 CD, i own a store bought copy of this game, and i assure you there is only one cd. As a result i have changed the lisitng
Yes, it's 1 CD only. -- ARC Gritt 12:37, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

When I got the game, it was 2 CD's, the other containing other languages

The English-only release had 1 CD, the multilingual release had 2 CDs. WindowsKiller 09:42, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

It does run on SP2 but sometimes crashes to desktop, so save frequently. as far as i know this issue was not resolved. MarkT39 13:53, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

It can run [reasonably] stably but requires fiddling around, make sure you have the latest drivers for your sound and video cards [motherboard drivers also wouldn't go amiss] and try switching the compatibility mode to Windows 98 or 2000. Infrequent crashing may persist though.

I Have added http:// dungeonkeeper.co.uk/ as it is a relative, active link, i have also renamed The Music Composer's Description to give more information about the link

Cheats

Just added a few other cheats from IGN, fixed typos and removed personal information and unnecesarry good wishes left by the creator. Anyway, I'd it is more like a preparation, for I'd be very grateful is someone moved it to a gaming wiki. It simply belongs there.
