Bloated further reading section without context[edit]

The following unformatted list was in a =Further reading= section. Can someone cleanup the links so they are more informative as to what they are further reading about, what information they give, etc. And then selectively move them back in as either references, further reading or external links.

Thanks. --Dirk Beetstra T C 05:06, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You don't have to cite every sentence[edit]

I have gone through this article and, as a bandaid solution, added {{refn| tags to the excessive citations, though this is something that needs to be sorted out by someone more intersting in this music that I am. Previously this article was unreadable because of all the citations. I have also removed the "citation needed" tags, because let's be real, an article on an obscure genre of music from the 90s/aughts with 82 citations probably doesn't need many more citations. Plus... you don't need to cite every sentence. Know when to cite. Biktor627 (talk) 05:33, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Why is every Wiki editor so condescending? 162.221.219.16 (talk) 02:17, 16 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

"If we require proper sources, the article may as well be blank"[edit]

@Issan Sumisu: How am I supposed to source that The Dungeon Synth Archives, obviously the largest single source of dungeon synth on the entire internet, is just that? The genre is underground as hell, there's barely reviews of albums, people don't go around saying "the only centralised collection of this genre is the only centralised collection of this genre" because this knowledge is expected from people consuming media about it in the first place. In the same vein, the cover of Thangorodrim's albums shows the guy in black and white and corpse paint, similar to early Darkthrone works. People don't actually write that down, but the veracity of this being black metal style is confirmable by anyone with even passing knowledge of the genres simply by seeing the cover. Do you actually contest any of the claims or did you delete the section, rather than add some sources yourself, just because? Korn (talk) 09:49, 10 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted your edit because no WP:RELIABLESOURCES was cited. Without sources there's no proof of notability, that's the number one rule of Wikipedia. Anybody can claim anything's true if there aren't sources to back it up and if there isn't source to back it up then it isn't notable enough to be mentioned on Wikipedia. That being said in [1], Dungeon Synth Archive is covered briefly, where it's described as a "meeting point of the scene". If you'd like help understanding how to incorporate the info from this article on Wikipedia without WP:OR I can talk you through it. Issan Sumisu (talk) 09:54, 10 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Issan Sumisu: Thank you for the offer, I hope I can pick you up on that when I have more time at my hands. I was mainly a Wiktionarian in my day, and our processes were very different because basically everything language counts as common knowledge. As for the black metal aesthetics, I'd like to reiterate my question with regard to this: This seems like a very obvious thing for anyone with even passing familiarity; is it not possible to have this stand without a written citation just by merit of "common knowledge" if it is not actually contested by anyone? The current connection with the black metal scene, no matter whether treated in writing or not, seems relevant to the topic of the article simply by virtue of its origin. "Each of the following tracks are also examples of..." with no following list of tracks[edit]

The second paragraph of the "Traditional heavy metal" subsection contains the sentence "Each of the following tracks are also examples of non-black metal heavy metal tracks which feature fantastical ambient, orchestral, or neoclassical music that could, arguably, be said to either influence artists later associated with dungeon synth." but then there is no such listing of tracks that follows.

There should either be some examples given or this sentence should be removed / reworked. Davep3rrett (talk) 03:07, 26 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
