Bottleneck downloads

This isn't suitable for this article. If Wikipedia was distributed through BT it wouldn't have bandwidth problems either. If it was hosted on more servers it would be faster as well, but neither of those are facts you'd add to its article. This is information about BT, not EA Downloader. Perhaps if someone can find evidence that EA are working to integrate BT it is worthy of inclusion, but otherwise it's just not relevant information. --Tom Edwards 09:17, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

I just don't get it. I get slow downloads and often get my downloads queued. I think that is a problem, and I don't see why there only should be advantages. That's not a very objectiv POV if you ask me (as a journalist). Sure, BitTorrent is kind of speculative, but there's still a real problem with the bandwith when many people tries to download, and for me that's a disadvantage. I still use EA Downloader, but I don't see only advantages. If I had a disc I would never have to wait to install the game, but now I sometimes have to wait.
So why shouldn't the fact that sometimes you can't download be relevant information? --Swedan 11:17, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
The fact that you can't is indeed relevant, as the edit notes on my first reversion state. My issue is with the rest of the bullet point. --Tom Edwards 16:11, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Games?

Should we add the games the downloader currently has? Gamerzworld 21:59, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

EA Downloader => EA Link

Someone ought to rename 'EA Downloader' to 'EA Link' throughout the article. Especially 'bugs' section has many references to the old name. Jesperborgstrup 19:06, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

EA Link doesn't contain a rootkit

According to a conversation a collegue of mine had with Greg Black (EA employee, pretty high up in the food-chain) the EA Link software doesn't contain any rootkits or malware in itself. The "PACE Anti-Piracy Software" was most likely installed with some other software obtained via EA Link. W3bbo 22:33, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

VNC

Why doesn't someone put in that the god damn program won't run in australia! I get an 'invalid in your region' message and i live in Australia! what gives?!?

Move article to EA Store

Anyone intends to move the article to EA Store and do further cleanup? I am worried that EA will throw out more surprise this year and render efforts wasted.JaLooNz (talk) 14:43, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

EA Store not working on South America

Apparently EA Store is no longer accesible from IPs from countries of South America like Peru, Argentina and Colombia, this problem has been presented since at least February 2009 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.240.223.170 (talk) 19:49, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

Download period

It appears that the talk about only being able to download for one year is not true. I just tried downloading games that I do not have extension on (1.5 years old) and it works just fine. Also, you *can* backup the files you download. Just pack the EADM folder and you're good.

Sign your comments. The talk is true, it is shown on the EA website after you make an order. TigerTails (talk) 01:14, 11 October 2009 (UTC)
I was trying to figure this out before making a purchase at the EA store but went ahead with a pre-order anyway on the British site. After completing the order, the confirmation page says that you only have 30 days to download your software (and also encourages you to backup your files), but the customer service help section seemingly contradicts this by saying you can re-download games but not specifying any time limits. There is also nothing about a time-limit in the Terms of Sale agreement (dated 19 Aug 2009). There is no mention of the Extended Download Service EDS on the site and it appears that the EDS cannot actually be purchased on the British site. While it is a confirmed fact that the 1-year limit did exist at some point, it is possible that EA store removed this limit without announcing it officially, it seems that reference 8 about a footnote is as official as it got (but even that statement can be interpreted in more than one way). From what I can surmise from various unofficial statements, it seems that some, none, or all of the following factors may affect whether you can re-download a purchase with no time-limits: country of purchase, whether EDS was available and was it purchased, when the software was purchased, and what the Terms of Sale were at the time.Special:Contributions/anon 18:11, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

Title change "Origin"

Can a admin or some user change the title "EA STORE" to "Origin". This is what the main page says "Welcome to the EA Store, now called Origin! Our site is in the middle of an upgrade. Please come back at 9am PST to experience our new storefront." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.202.26.202 (talk) 14:51, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

Should be merged with Origin (EA). --MK (talk) 14:05, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

Sharing Of Personal Information

i read Origin's EULA (http://eacom.s3.amazonaws.com/EULA_Origin_8.24.11.pdf) and it clearly states:

This and all other data provided to EA and/or collected by EA in connection with your installation and use of this Application is collected, used, stored and transmitted in accordance with EA’s Privacy Policy located at www.ea.com. To the extent that anything in this section conflicts or is inconsistent with the terms of EA’s Privacy Policy, the terms of the Privacy Policy shall control.

this eula only states that they wont share personally identifiable information but does not mention non personally identifiable information (so they can sell it or share it?) on the other hand, EA privacy (http://tos.ea.com/legalapp/WEBPRIVACY/US/en/PC/ ) states:

We may, however, share anonymous, non-personal, aggregated and/or public information with third parties.

in the end, its just the same, the eula permits them to share non personally identifiable data .Harroyo (talk) 16:52, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

Unloading the EA Downloader

I am not found of having a bunch of software running in the task tray. How do I get the EA downloader to quit auto loading? How does removing it from the task tray affect my game session?

Click on Edit, then Auto Start, then untick the box that says Start Automatically and click OK. Having it not run does not affect your game play at all. --WikiCats 10:53, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

But it does seem that it needs to launch when you click on one of the games downloaded from it.

Mac OS X?

The Platform and Category both include Mac OS X but none of the text in the article mention and specifics such as when this will be or confirmation links. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.139.214.26 (talk) 16:50, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

Arno's reason for banning.

The problem with the story of "Arno's ban" is that he himself has stated that he was banned for saying “Have you sold your souls to the EA devil?”. However, the only source we have on this is Arno himself. The man has posted a lot in the bioware social forums, and any of those posts could have been over the line and the reason for the ban. Therefore, I have pasted "Allegedly" into Arno's reason for banning. 87.209.254.245 (talk) 18:07, 22 December 2012 (UTC)
