Update importance level?[edit]

The fire is apparently causing major damage to Multnomah Falls and the surrounding area, a major tourist destination. -2003:CA:83D0:8400:E929:664D:934C:7675 (talk) 23:13, 5 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Columbia closure[edit]

This would seem to merit deeper discussion of its importance and consequences. BTW I called USCG and confirmed the Columbia is still closed to vessels mid day September 6. ☆ Bri (talk) 20:40, 6 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for calling Bri. Here is the latest update via InciWeb from the US Forest Service[1], but, it's from the morning. They'll most likely post another report around 5 PM or later. Feel free to update as needed, important that we keep this resource updated as best as possible for visitors and residents in the area. Missvain (talk) 21:10, 6 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

New images as of 9/7[edit]

Just uploaded new photographs from US Forest Service, including pics of the historic Multnomah Falls Lodge surrounded by smoke. Check them out here. Missvain (talk) 19:57, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Bull Run[edit]

One topic to include is that this wildfire has threatened the Bull Run watershed, which is the source for drinking water for Portland & a large share of the metro area. Another is the ash fall Portland inhabitants endured the first week of September. I'd add these, but I don't have any citations at hand for them. (And Twitter ought to provide better images of the ash than I have on my cellphone.) -- llywrch (talk) 18:20, 10 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

All the trails are open now….[edit]

Citation(s) needed…. Probably good cross-references to other Columbia River Gorge / Oregon / wildfires / Forest Service articles as well. My understanding is that there may have been some important lessons learned from this fire — although nothing like the major policy and law impacts from the catastrophic 2020 Oregon wildfires that killed people and destroyed small towns (ditto California).

I’m just a low-capacity occasional copy editor, so enhancing this article is not something I am likely to do. Thanks to all created it and enhanced it over the last 5 years!!! Left Central (talk) 01:12, 19 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Replaced unreferenced sentence about trails that were damaged and closed with updated info that they are now open. Steve Pastor
