Masturbation[edit]

Can we not think of something more important to say about this mouse except that he sucks his own penis??? I'm fairly sure that about half of this species does not suck its own penis as they do not have peni. I'm sure that the 4th graders who read this article will get a good laugh, but come on! That was a piece of vandalism that has already been reverted. Ucucha 01:55, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, I should have known. I haven't been around for quite some time. Patris Magnus (talk) 17:14, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Close paraphrasing[edit]

While I cannot view the entirety of the source, there does seem to be close following of Mammals of the Eastern United States in this article. For one example, compare the following from the article:

The mother protects the young for the first three weeks and pulls them into the nest away from danger. In caged situations studied, males offered some protection to the young and one was observed pulling a young into the nest, but males are generally excluded from the maternal nest and build separate nests. Weanings and excursions from the nest with the young occurred between the second and fourth weeks in the caged situations.

with the source (p. 286):

For about the first three weeks, females protect the young and repeatedly pull them back into the nest out of danger. In the caged situation, the male showed some signs of defending the young, and on one occasion was observed to pull a young back into the nest, but other males in captivity during this time were excluded from the maternal nest and built separate nests. Weaning, and excursions of the young outside the nest, took place between the second and fourth weeks.

Content in this article should be checked against that source. The information in it is free, but creative elements and presentation (which includes both structure and language) are not. The essay Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing contains some suggestions for rewriting that may help avoid these issues. The article Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2009-04-13/Dispatches, while about plagiarism rather than copyright concerns, also contains some suggestions for reusing material from sources that may be helpful, beginning under "Avoiding plagiarism". --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:22, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
