Merge proposal[edit]

I think the contents of Elmwood Cemetery (Detroit, Michigan) should be merged in. There is much of redundancy in the two articles concerning that part of the NRHP entry. --Matthiasb (talk) 12:22, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disagree. Elmwood Cemetery is notable in its own right, and even though it's grouped with the other two nearby cemeteries in this District, it's a seperate entity. As a parallel, note that many buildings in the Grand Circus Park Historic District are also notable in their own right, and have seperate articles. The redundancy you (quite correctly) note is probably an indication that the Elmwood Cemetery article should be expanded, rather than merged. Andrew Jameson (talk) 12:42, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well that would be the question wether cemeterys have relevancy on their own – as to create articles for each of them – of if they gain relevancy as a NRHP entry or the like. Unless the Elmwood Cemetery is a NRHP on its own I keep therefore my proposal to merge in. --Matthiasb (talk) 11:54, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Commercially published books exist which are specifically about both Mount Elliott and Elmwood Cemeteries (titles are given under "Further reading" in this article). That would be enough, I think, to make them both individually notable. The Lafayette Street Cemetery might or might not be individually notable--its association with the Temple Beth El and its position as the first Jewish cemetery in Michigan may make it historically notable, but I'm not sure. Andrew Jameson (talk) 13:55, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That it possible, however I think that the article can only improve by merging them. --Matthiasb (talk) 18:37, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I feel Elmwood Cemetery (Detroit, Michigan) should remain an article on its own and not be merged. It should be a part of this article. In fact the Elmwood article should make mention of being in the Historic District but Elmwood as it stands is full of history an significance and I would agree with Andrew Jameson. Disagree Most major cemeteries in the US have their own independent Wikipedia articles. The district article should be better fleshed out with more information on the overall area, with some of the redundancy eliminated. 8th Ohio Volunteer Infantry (talk) 15:36, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
