Religion[edit]

This page lists Byrne as a Roman Catholic. He is in fact an Atheist. Can you be a Roman Catholic Atheist, er, I think you mean he was brought up in a Roman Catholic household or tradition, but considers himself an atheist.

Incorrect information[edit]

Radio interview[edit]

Listening to Ed Byrne a few minutes ago on Gold Radio, he talked about Wikipedia and how he was amused by the mis-fact "He is currently writing a sitcom with Irish comic Andrew Maxwell about two gay men who begin living together after meeting on a comedy panel show about owls." He enjoyed it so much, he left it.

As I was online, I had a look myself to see it had already been removed! That anon IP was quick. MortimerCat (talk) 07:19, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Some additional information[edit]

Ed was a student at the University of Strathclyde, but dropped out. Birthday is wrong[edit]

There is currently a fact on the page that his birthday is today (10th April) which has no source given. Now just noticed that the infobox says 10th April, but the article says 17th December. I've left the 17th December one in the article even though it has no source either (since I don't know any different), but removed the info from the infobox. TwoSheds88 (talk) 13:15, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Date of birth?[edit]

IMDb gives 10 April 1972. But The Sun, bless them, gives 16 April 1972 as does The Blackpool Grand Theatre (who make quite a thing of it). Who's right? Martinevans123 (talk) 22:08, 1 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose - Looking at the disam I would certainly say there's few others that are more or less PRIMARYTOPIC .... I wouldn't say the comedian is the PRIMARYTOPIC here at all, Anyway I feel moving it would cause quite a lot of confusion although that in itself isn't really a valid reason to oppose. –Davey2010^Talk 19:59, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Because if someone is never known by an abbreviated name, no-one will look it up there. No-one looking for a UK prime minister will type in Peggy Thatcher, Tess May, Harry Macmillan or Jack Major. Birth name[edit]

Byrne's birth name is given as Edward Cathal Byrne. The source given is this audio file of an interview in 2013 for Richard Herring's Edinburgh Fringe Podcast. The name does not appear in the text. The podcasts lasts for 1:02:16 and the claim is finally mentioned only at 58:20, when Byrne says "That is false. My middle name is Cathal." He sounds perfectly serious, even though he then makes a joke about his wife, and relates a story about his wedding vows. He explains it is the Irish name for "Charles." So I have updated the ref with "time=58:05" and added a quote. But is this source acceptable/ sufficient? Is any additional footnote needed? Thanks. Death of brother[edit]

In this interview he recalls the death of his brother Paul (who also worked in comedy, as a director, writer and producer). He says: "At his funeral, as per his wishes, he was cremated to the song "Disco Inferno" – the lyrics of which, "Burn, baby, burn", offered ".. a pleasing pun on his status as younger sibling."
