Although the Brisbane City Council Archives give his name as Edward John Baines and that he is mayor in 1872 and 1905, all other information I have located suggest that Alderman Baines in the 1870s is Edward Joseph Baines, keeper of the Pineapple Hotel who dies in 1880. So, it is not clear who the mayor in 1905, or whether it is a man with a similar name. Kerry (talk) 12:10, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
