"Gum printing"[edit]

Just added to the article by Samatarou:

Article: In 1904, only a few photographers were using this experimental approach. Then Samatarou adds: Citation needed|reason=gum printing had been around for 50 years

There appear to be multiple points of failure here. First, the usual: If you have the time to put in "Citation Needed," you have the time to find the citation yourself. Secondly, if Samatarou is so doubtful about the statement -- remove it. "Be bold." Thirdly, the queried statement doesn't say gum printing didn't exist, it merely says it was rarely used. In other words, his reason for "Citation Needed" itself needs a citation to show both verifiability and relevance to the queried statement.

As may be -- I'm editing out the whole thing. Put it back if citations are found.Hal (talk) 22:37, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Luxembourgish[edit]

Edward Steichen is Luxembourgish. He is by blood 100% Luxembourgish with absolutely no American blood. I'm sick and tired that every brilliant person from another country becomes an American on wikipedia. Even if he got the American nationality that was just so he could work and live in America. Doesn't and won't ever make him an American. That's why I changed Edward Steichen to Luxembourgish. Because he is... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Papertissues (talkcontribs) 14:49, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Military Rank and Title[edit]

While Steichen served in the U.S. armed forces: What was his rank and title? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.2.9.204 (talk) 13:14, 25 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Which time? He was in the Army in WWI. He was in the Navy in WWII. I don't recall his rank in WWI, but in WWII he was a Commander in the Navy, as shown in the gallery. 2601:601:1800:96B4:D5AC:8BC6:D7C5:45FE (talk) 10:12, 10 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Reassessment please[edit]

I still fail to see how this article meets the criteria for an assessment of 'B', especially in Photography history, even though I have added material to it and removed outdated hyperbole about Steichen's contribution to fashion that have been clarified in recent scholarly research (published in Paul Martineau's Icons of Style: A Century of Fashion Photography of 2018). Compare this bio perhaps with that of Robert Frank (which though much more substantial, is rated 'C') and it is plain that this is barely started, especially for someone with such a long and influential career, into his eighties, as Steichen. Would a qualified editor please conduct an assisted reassessment? Thank You Jamesmcardle(talk) 04:46, 29 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
