Assessment[edit]

Idiophone or percussion[edit]

This Ekwe instrument shown in the picture is idiophone and not have the characteristics of the drum. WIKI: "Drums consist of at least one membrane, called adrumhead or drum skin, that is stretched over a shell and struck, either directly with the player's hands, or with a drumstick, to produce sound." and "An idiophone is any musical instrument which creates sound primarily by way of the instrument's vibrating, without the use of strings or membranes."

It seems to be a Slit drum, which is one of the few types of idiophone to be commonly called a drum, I guess because for all intents and purposes they are played and sound quite similarly to membranophone drums.Gudzwabofer (talk) 12:49, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
