Copyright concern[edit]

An editor has expressed concern that by reproducing the entire story discussed in this article we may be violating the author's copyright.

The book containing the story has already been published, the author is clearly identified and the story is presented intact and without mutilation, so there is no moral rights issue. The purpose of copying is non-profit educational or critical. The copyrighted work is a published collection of fictional stories: short excerpts from such a work may reasonably be quoted when discussing the work. The amount copied is four words from the 130-page book. The author has said the words were added to the book casually, at the last-minute, so they can hardly be considered central. Nobody would consider that having read the four words they would have no reason to read the rest of the book. The microfiction is therefore not a substantial part of the book. There will be no negative financial impact - in fact the Wikipedia article may conceivably help to promote sales of the book. So there is no fair use concern.

This is similar to the article on Blood, toil, tears, and sweat. Even if the work in which this phrase first appeared were protected by copyright, use of the phrase in a critical or educational article is legitimate, including an article that discusses only the phrase.
