Merger proposal[edit]

It has come to my attention that allylation reactions involving silicon-based reactions have two dedicated pages, namely this one and the Sakurai reaction. This page is decidedly more detailed but its name is somewhat clumsy and makes it hard to find. I may be acting in error here (and if that's the case let me know) but I feel as though the two pages have a lot of overlap. I've posted the same comment on the Sakurai talk page.M.Levin 05:30, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Bad idea, Sakurai is mentioned only once in Electrophilic substitution of unsaturated silanes which covers a lot bigger topic V8rik (talk) 17:53, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • The way in which the Sakurai reaction is described in the electrophilic sub article is not 100% accurate. The article claims "The combination of an allylsilane with an α,β-unsaturated ketone in the presence of a Lewis acid is known as the Sakurai reaction." but this article seems to suggest that the Sakurai reaction is a more general label as suggested on the Sakurai reaction page. Nonetheless, I see your point about the broader topic vs. specific reaction. If they are to remain separate articles then the Sakurai article is going to require a good deal of clean up and I'd be in favor of a name change for the electrophilic sub article.M.Levin 19:30, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
