death date correct?[edit]

"On race day, May 31, 1976, Elmer George argued by telephone...". But in 1976 race was held May 30, so where's the mistake? Xjr (talk) 18:38, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This article and this one both indicate that the argument started on race day, which was definitely May 30, 1976, so I'll change that. However, neither article conclusively states what day he died (e.g. even though the argument started on May 30, the shooting may not have occurred until after midnight, or he may have been shot before midnight, but actually died in hospital the following day). His entry at www.oldracingcar.com's "Where Are They Now?", usually a very reliable source, specifies his date of death as May 31, but FORIX (subscription site), also usually a reliable source, says "May 30". So I won't change his date of death until we have better evidence one way or the other. Also, there seems to be some discrepancy about the legal determination regarding Trolinger: this article says that a grand jury "decided not to indict" him, whereas "Where Are They Now?" says he was "acquitted". I'm no expert on the US legal system, but my understanding is that you need to be indicted to be acquitted, so I will remove that bit, and also generally reword the paragraph, to avoid copyvio from here. Date of birth[edit]

Different sources specify different dates of birth:

The article currently says 15 July 1928, using ChicaneF1 as a supporting reference. DH85868993 (talk) 11:58, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
