This article's value is dubious[edit]

I stumbled across this entry and it reads like a marketing bio. This person has worked on albums by some famous musicians, but so what? It's not clear that she was the mastering engineer on this laundry list of names or if she was merely in the studio. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.103.19.219 (talk) 19:56, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with this. The more I look in to the content of this article, the more dubious I think the entire thing is. The list of artists she is claimed to have mastered releases for is patently false. The names are not contained in any of the sources listed here, and I can find no confirmation anywhere else that she was ever involved in mastering anything for Barbra Streisand, Björk, Goldfrapp, Moby, Paul McCartney, Sonic Youth, Destiny's Child and Vanessa Carlton - and just about every "big name" artist listed in the article. The one thing I could find any info on (which I've already taken the liberty of removing), was something about her mastering a release for Madonna - which turned out to be flagrantly false. She in fact mastered Missy Elliot remixes of Madonna tracks in 2003 - remixes that were never released. I believe a name such as Madonna's was knowingly and falsely included on this article simply to increase traffic by association, and the above names were also included as a result of similar misappropriation. We should take a vote on whether this article should be considered for deletion. This, and the article for her studio cohort Joe LaPorta, which also suffers from many of these same problems. Emily Lazar's wikipedia page is not a marketing bio. Emily was the mastering engineer and has worked on all the albums listed. The list of artists is not false. In regards to the following comments please look to the following credits below. Incorrect or false information has not been added for increased traffic by association and it is unfair and unjust to accuse so. The statement made by User: Homeostasis07 "We should take a vote on whether this articled should be considered for deletion" is ridiculous and unfair. Grammy nominated mastering engineer Emily Lazar does not have to lie on wikipedia when her work speaks for itself.

I can't help but feel you may have a slight conflict of interest editing this article. IP possibly related to the user named Intern2thelodge? Anyway, here is Emily Lazar's mastering "discography" according to AllMusic. Several of the releases you've mentioned here don't appear at the AllMusic site, neither does her name appear on the sourced album articles. The mastering engineer for Goldfrapp's Seventh Tree is listed as being Stephen Marcussen, both on the album article and at AllMusic. Whether or not Lazar mixed the album specifically for 12" is debatable, and doesn't appear to be source-able. The mastering engineer for Madonna/Missy Elliot's "Into the Hollywood Groove" is listed on the album article and at AllMusic as being Pat Kraus. Whether or not Lazar mixed the song specifically for the Gap ad is, again, pretty arguable, and I doubt you'd ever find a reliable source for it. Also, that section of the article opens with the words "Lazar has worked on over 2,000 ALBUMS with such artists as... Paul McCartney", implying that she has mastered official studio albums by those artists. Her mastering a random soundtrack album that happens to feature Paul McCartney doing vocals on a single song is not grounds for implying she mastered one of his albums. McCartney's name should be removed and replaced with "She also mastered the soundtrack to Sound City." And the dubiousness goes on and on. We need sources for all these artists listed. There's no doubt that if someone took the time to go through the entire thing, the list of artists she mastered official studio albums for would be a lot less impressive looking. Her father is from a Jewish family of Lithuanian origin and her mother is a convert to Judaism.^[1]
