Slamming Thompsonville[edit]

The comments "It's advisable to not walk alone at night." and "Stay away from the river apartments, and Freshwater Pond projects." have no place in an encyclopedia and I actually find them kind of offensive, being born in Thompsonville myself (primary source here) I know that the area of thompsonville (even though sections specifically stated by the previous editor) is not NEARLY as bad as it is made out to seem. Besides being wrong, annoying, and offensive, they are also breaking the NPOV policy. Chris M. 01:38, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Neighborhood descriptions[edit]

I grew up in Enfield...and these neighborhood descriptions are strange. Some of them are acurate, but I am not sure an encyclopedia should have descriptions like these. Mentioning Smoke and Leather? I seem to remember it as Colonel Hazard not General Hazard, but it's been a while since social studies class at Hazardville Memorial.

Changed neighborhood descriptions[edit]

I modified the descriptions of the neighborhoods to remove what was largely opinion (and strange opinions at that). It now seems more typical of an encyclopedia article. Crs175 18:28, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia articles exist for some of the neighborhoods[edit]

I'm not sure what to do about it, but there are articles that exist about Hazardville and Thompsonville. Shouldn't the information be contained in one article or the other? For the time being, I linked the articles from the Enfield page, but left both as is. Crs175 18:27, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Other changes to neighborhood section[edit]

I have added all the neighborhoods listed in wikipedia (these are based on census districts). If we have some of them, we should probably have all of them.

History[edit]

I was surprised to find that there was no mention of Jonathan Edwards and his famous sermon mentioned at all. This is probably one of the most famous events in Enfield history to take place. It's in most history books (those that aren't attempting to remove Christianity from history). I'm not a great writer, so I placed a little detail on this. Someone with more time and literary skills should complete.

Frenchtown[edit]

I grew up in Tville, and was wondering if anyone knew the borders of "Frenchtown" ran. I never knew myself, just assumed that it was east of Pearl Street and all the way down to the river between the bridge and the fire station. Anyone have any ideas? Why was it called Frenchtown, etc?

When I grew up in Thompsonville (1957-1975 (HS graduation)), Frenchtown was considered to be bordered by Pleasant St and Connecticut River, possibly parts of Church St, as well. Notable Residents[edit]

The edit on 14 November 2006 03:22 by user 24.74.95.220 removed Bill Spanswick as a notable resident. The only reason given was "non-notable". I have never met Bill Spanswick but if someone told me a person from the town I live in played for a major league baseball team, I'd consider him notable - "notable" in the sense of notable to the town, not to the history of the world, or even to other parts of Wikipedia (he's the only person in the list so far without a Wikipedia entry). Granted the cited URL is a page that says "Minor League" at the top - but the short bio of him goes on to say he did play major league ball for one year). --George3 04:57, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted in Reversion[edit]

I did a revert to this Enfield article on 23:52, 11 November 2006 because the previous edits:

  • Chopped off everything after the Notable Residents section (Refs, External links, CT template).
  • Added this content (end of article) which either needs citations and reformatting OR it is actually a form of vandalism/vanity content.
  • Separately, the final effect of the revert was the reinclusion of Chris Reilly under the notable residents section. It appears the Chris Reilly article in Wikipedia was flagged for deletion on November 10th, 2006 - if it is decided that that article be deleted, then the Chris Reilly entry here should be considered for removal but not until then. --George3 06:09, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Enfield Seal[edit]

The section describing the seal is still plagiarized directly from this page: http://www.enfield-ct.gov/content/686/default.aspx despite the fact that periodically, people remove the "{{copypaste|June, 15, 2007|section}}" from this article. Although the source URL is a town government website, they do claim copyright at the bottom of the page. Sorry to be such a stickler. Technically, I should just remove the entire plagiarized section (but even that action got reverted some time ago). --Georgeryp (talk) 12:44, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's not enough to simply tag a copyright problem. It needs to be reported at WP:CP. This could have been handled a year ago when it was a small matter to delete two or three tainted versions – now there are almost 100 versions that may have to be deleted, meaning each version since June 12 2007 may have to be permanently deleted. For non-admins, that means 100 little check boxes have to be hand-checked, one by one. Anybody left out there who still wants to be an admin? ;-)
I'm going to just remove the section in question for now, without deleting all the versions containing the paragraph. If someone keeps readding it or if there's a copyright complaint of some kind here on this talk page, tag it again and report it at WP:CP according to the instructions. An admin will handle it from there. Don't wait around for someone else to do it, because in these instances we really need editors to be bold. Thanks. KrakatoaKatie 02:38, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Enfield borders[edit]

Enfield, which is entirely east of the Connecticut River, does not share a border with Windsor Locks, which is entirely west. However, it does share its southern border with Ellington. Guastafeste (talk) 19:08, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Typical neighborhood?[edit]

Having grown up in Enfield I'm skeptical of the use of this image being used to describe a "typical" neighborhood. It's a planned and fairly wealthy neighborhood and I think it's disingenuous for all three images of the current town to show fairly large/expensive houses. Especially when "the median income for a family was $60,528" according to the article. There are nice neighborhoods like those pictures, but having just those up screams of marketing to me. There are three images of big houses and the one of "thompsonville village" is extremely atypical for the thompsonville area. Does anyone object to trying to find more "typical" images for the neighborhoods? Or at the very least removing claims that these are typical? Chris M. (talk) 13:35, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
