Language[edit]

Possible storyline error: In Enter77 episode, the flashbacks featuring Sayid show him as having lived in Paris. But in season one, he needed Shannon's limited knowledge of French to translate Rousseau's distress call.

Just because someone lives in a country, doesn't mean they learn the language. Might be worth noting as trivia once the page is written up though. 24.211.190.211 15:25, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My name is Andrei, too[edit]

"My name is Andrei, too" is possibly a reference to Andrei Tarkovskys film My Name Is Ivan. On the other hand the russian title of the film was Иваново детство. --helohe (talk) 21:48, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]


The text before the underlined word is: то мере оттолкнул Андрея. (Bold means underlined) surrounding section:

Neither Tarkovskii, not "Ivan's Childhood" movie. Translation from Russian to English of piece of text shown above : ...it somehow kept Andrei aside. Nadzhi was not a member of resistance, however, he was an excellent specialist in.....he was a step brother of mighty....who controlled a large north-west part of Afganistan... A hand -made red-coloured inscription Меня тоже зовут Андрей. (My name is Andrei, too)

Seems, that Nadzhi (Наджи) is a name of Soviet agent from Afganistan's rebells. Andrei, according to text, is a Soviet officer who worked with Nadzi. When Locke took a paper sheet from Bakunin's type-writer, there is an additional piece of text of written report (in Russian) is visible :

...как и все радикалы того времени, Наджи свято верили в то, что они сдерживают Запад и расчищают дорогу Аллаху, чтобы тот стер с лица земли неверных, в то время как Андрей считал, что падение Афганистана станет импульсом к мировой социальной революции. A hand-made red-coloured inscription :"Я так много забыл об Афганистане" "Пакистанцы прибыли сегодня"- сообщил Наджи на высокопарном русском языке.

Translation :..like all radicals of that time, Nadzhi believed in their task of holding West aside, cleaning road for Allah who wipes foreigners from Earth surface. At the very same time Andrei thinks that downfall of Afganistan could be a step to World Social Revolutin. A hand-made red-coloured inscription : I forgot too much about Afganistan.

"People from Pakistan have just arrived", Nadzi said on Russian language...

Nobody paid attention that hand-made inscription by red colour may refer to name of Andrew (Andrei) Divoff, who brilliantly starred Mikhail Bakunin...

'Anarchist' names[edit]

Already in the episode 'Not in Portland' a name was used that is somehow connected to anarchism: Edmund Burke (Burke's first published work, A Vindication of Natural Society: A View of the Miseries and Evils Arising to Mankind, was originally taken as a serious treatise on anarchism. Chess Game[edit]

I am practically certain that the end position when Locke wins for the first time against the computer is invalid. There is no checkmate as the check can be blocked by both the bishop and the knight. If someone else with knowledge of chess could verify this and add it please... Thanks (of course someone could say that the computer conceded, however I don't think any decent chess program would quit at such a position Kalambaki2 08:26, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You are right that it is not (yet) checkmate. But if i am not totally mistaken it is a mate in 2, so the program could just concede... white can block the check with the bishop or knight but the next black move would just be to capture (the piece) with the rock. Then white has to capture the rock and black would move in the queen, then it is checkmate.


  • The yield by the computer could be the failsafe, since it's the exact last move Garry Kasparov moved against Anatoli Karpov in the 1985 World Championship. Mikhail has noted that the computer cheats, so a real checkmate could have resulted in the computer using an invalid move to beat the player.
  • Anyone else notice that this has been the first time Locke has been associated with games since season 1? Season 1 had him play loads of games, in flashbacks or on the island, backgammon, Risk, and he also mentions Operation. As far as I know I don't think there was any mention to games in season 2.

Russian Talking[edit]

An in-universe plot walk-through is against Wiki Manuals of Style[edit]

Please read and familiarise yourself with the guidlines for writing about fiction. The current article is an perfect example of an in-universe plot walk through of the kind to be avoided on Wikipedia. Any article on this, or any other Lost episode should offer "real-world context and sourced analysis, offering detail on a work's achievements, impact or historical significance, not solely a summary of that work's plot." Mistake[edit]

Spoilers[edit]

What is the idea with a spoiler warning when the first thing that meets those of visit the article is a picture of the last couple of minits of the episode? Wouldn't it be better with a more neutral image? 193.217.193.92 23:04, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Camera blinking Y[edit]

I don't see the camera blinking Y in Morse Code to Locke when he saw the chess game asking him to play. The camera it's only blinking at a regular time, it's not a code involved... If someone sees the camera blinking Y please give the time when this takes place
