Usage[edit]

The Clute & Grant Encyclopedia of Fantasy (1999) defines epic fantasy --as it should be and perhaps used to be. They regret that it is practically unusable in that sense, because the industry has made it a marketing category.

See also the Encyclopedia entries for Heroic fantasy and Sword and sorcery. (Briefly, they say epic and heroic are both practically useless as mere euphemisms for sword and sorcery, or S&S.)

Continuing discussion of further merge. From 2006 we have discussion whether those two articles should be merged, presumably making heroic fantasy redirect to sword-and-sorcery.
