Differences

I was thinking of writing a short ammount on the specific construction differences between Epiphones and Gibsons. I don't know how common this is but many people I've spoken to lately don't know the specific differences, they do know that Epi is a brand owned by gibson, but they don't know what makes them different. Things like the neck, type of wood used, the veneer. SnakeSeries 11:48, 31 December 2005 (UTC) What makes an Epiphone Different from a Gibson is the neck itself is normally slimmer, but they generally are set necks, except on some very entry level Epiphones, and the wood of Epipone guitars aren't selected as well as on a gibson, the top caps when used are generally thiner (approx 5mm as opposed to 10mm on a gibson) and are most of the time B grade, The pickups on Epiphones are made in Asia for the most part, but they do mount USA pickups in some exceptions whereas Gibsons will always have USA pickups, concerning the pots, wiring etc... the Epiphones are of lesser quality and deserve an upgrade. The hardware (tuners, stopbar, tune-o-matic) are also made in Asia. The finish on Epiphones are also quite different, notably the different laquers used, Polyurethane laquer on Epiphones and nitrocellulose on Gibsons, polyurethane laquer is alot thicker and is also less prone to wearing, nitrocellulose wears very quickly and will relic alot quicker.
