How this article came to be[edit]

I learned today that Ernst Leitz II had organized the Leica Freedom Train, not to mention presiding over a well-known optics company. I was puzzled to see English Wikipedia did not have an article for him. I translated the German Wikipedia article and created the article based on that text. I also created links in the articles I could find that had mentioned Leitz. Then I took a break of a couple of hours. When I returned I found that numerous improvements had been made to the article, such as adding categories, formatting references, linking to the German Wikipedia article, and adding scores of pages that linked to the article. I am exceptionally grateful for everyone's help.Robert P. O'Shea (talk) 13:12, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Article for Ernst Leitz I?[edit]

Perhaps I am flattering myself, but it seems to me the article on Ernst Leitz II seemed to fill a need. It struck me the same need might exist for an English Wikipedia for Ernst Leitz I, the founder of Leica Camera and father of Ernst Leitz II. If so, please go ahead (automated translation is not too bad now). I will say that the German Wikipedia article for Ernst Leitz I looks more challenging than that for II, not necessarily in the German, but in its redundancy with the German article on Leica optics.Robert P.
