I plan to add more of Essence's history to its Wikipedia entry. For example, I learned that the magazine was connected to Playboy for funding purposes. This and more details about the publication's past, including the absence of black women in the various decision-making processes, should be included for the reader's benefit.

The founders of the magazine should be in the lead section hyperlink the founders name within the wikipedia article to allow readers to read more about the history of essence expand on the impact black and white male patriarchy had on Essence I think you should create a separate section about the cover history of Essence and how Essence’s covers have become influential to African Americans and America

Question: How did the Essence expand from a publication to producing it’s own festival?

Essence’s activism shouldn’t all be one paragraph Expand on each act of activism within separate paragraphs (ex: “Take Back the Music” and Young Women’s Leadership Conference)

I would definitely agree with the comments stated above about adding to the magazine's history. Maybe depute this generations acknowledgement Essence served to generations past as an outlet for the African American opinion/style/events. Allowing one to see through the history of its creation and publications what it did for the culture. -Having African American's on the cover more often than the usual mainstream magazine -Articles written by Blacks for Blacks -The magazine has done a great job at being a time capsule of black history from Prince to Barack & Michelle Obama. The page as it stands gives a glimpse into an endless amount of information and acknowledgement that is to be told. I'm sure that you have kept all of this in mind.

Also keeping in mind that the creators were men...many don't know that. How did this come about. How has the company change over the years business wise? I would take out the award section. When pages include award sections it usually highlights the accomplishments of the topic. The award section on this page indicates the awards given out at the Essence festival not the accomplishments of Essence magazine. This page does a great job speaking through a neutral voice. Neutrality is the main premise of wikipedia. I think the article is broken down into appropriate secitios and sub-sections. However, I do believe there is room to indicuate other publication competitiors (publications that are built around the same theme as Essence. Here are the changes I plan to start applying: Develop history and contents, edit wordiness, include founders in lead and hyperlink names, expand on black and white male patriarchy, add cover history section, answer- how did Essence expand to holding its own festival?, discuss one act of activism per paragraph, discuss male creators and how the magazine's business has changed over time, remove award section, add competitors, add pillars and how they affect the discussion of the black community. 2017 article[edit]

An article publish in 2017 in Essence magazine mistakenly says Anita Hill accused Justice Clarence Thomas of sexual assault. [1] Anita Hill did not accuse Clarence Thomas of sexual assault, she accused him of harassment. Please, this calls for serious fact checking of Essence magazines editorial oversight. Thank you.
