Israel 2016

In Israel hayom (israeli newspapar) Written "Looking for the next star. Before Nadav Guedj return,Keshet and Tedy began to work on casting the next season of "next star". Guedj won the first season of the program and sent to represent Israel in the Eurovision in cooperation between IBA to Keshet, which is expected to continue into next season." (here in hebrew). 212.199.205.68 (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 20:00, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

Hungary

Hi, here is a source for Hungary in English: D97v (talk) 09:58, 30 May 2015 (UTC)

@D97v:. ESCUnited is being treated with caution by Project Eurovision (see here) due to a few of their editors also being member of this project therefore extreme caution is being taken on the grounds of conflict of interest and self-publication. Wes Mouse | T@lk 10:20, 30 May 2015 (UTC)

Eurovision Song Contest 2016 Debuts,Returns,Withdrawals

Debuts is Kosovo, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Qatar Scotland, Liechtenstein, Algeria and Tunisia. Returns is Slovakia, Morocco, Bosnia&Herzegovina, Ukraine, Turkey, Croatia, Bulgaria and Monaco. Withdrawals is San Marino and Moldova Lori Badyka (talk) 19:47, 30 May 2015 (UTC)

You forgot about Fiji, Nauru and Tuvalu debuting as well. Pickette (talk) 22:23, 30 May 2015 (UTC)
I love your sense of humour, @Pickette:. That gave me a well awaited giggle, thank you. Don't forget that the penguin population in Antarctica have also been rumoured to be sending a delegation and hoping to debut in 2016 too. lol Wes Mouse | T@lk 08:34, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

No official announcement of Tele 2 arena

The article says: "Sveriges Television (SVT) announced on 24 May that their first choice as host arena for the Eurovision was the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm." But the source for this is a pure speculation piece by a newspaper ([Expressen]). SVT made no public announcement, and if they did, that should be the source. 90.230.204.74 (talk) 14:15, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

SVT may not have made a "public" announcement; but that does not mean they have "not" had an interview with the newspaper though. The information is verified by a citation from a reliable source - and that is the second fundamental principle of Wikipedia. Wes Mouse | T@lk 14:30, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

Canary Islands

All the previous maps include the Canary Islands so please draw them back or remove them from all of the previous maps. (The same for JESC, EYD, EYM and EDC maps.) Thanks! D97v (talk) 18:16, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

The Canary Islands really need to be removed from all maps, since it give unfair prominence to the islands, and leaving out the Azores, Madeira, French possessions, Dutch possessions etc. -- [[ axg //  ]] 18:28, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
I've started to remove them from the EDC maps. D97v (talk) 18:29, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
@D97v: if you care to look at the discussion which took place at WikiCommons, then you will find out why it was decided to have the Canary Islands completely removed. Wes Mouse | T@lk 18:31, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

Andorra

Is this source reliable? --Gce (talk) 21:32, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

A blog is not a reliable source. -- [[ axg //  ]] 21:37, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
There are reports that the country has confirmed its non-participation in the 2016 contest. The sources are from the same website as those currently referenced in this article, should Andorra be added to the list, as per Luxembourg (identical circumstances)? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.31.214.26 (talk) 22:14, 4 June 2015 (UTC)

Kosovo

This article lists Kosovo as an active member of EBU, and indeed the source says so. But can one phrase on a fansite be considered a reliable source for that? I don't think so. In the article about the European Broadcasting Union they aren't listed as such, and neither on this list on the EBU's official site. This article from 3 years ago states that they still were applying for membership. So, until someone can supply a reliable source that Kosovo has become an active member of EBU in the meantime, let's remove them from the section of active EBU members. Arenas

According to Eurovoix, neither Tele2 Arena or Friends Arena are still in the race of hosting: [1] --SO2 (talk) 15:07, 3 June 2015 (UTC)

According to Sveriges Radio, Stockholm has officially placed a bid on hosting the contest in the Stockholm Globe City. Four different Stockholm venues are being considered, namely the Ericsson Globe, Hovet, Tele2 Arena and Annexet. MsigDK (talk) 11:26, 12 June 2015 (UTC)

Method of selection

 – Discussion moved to project talk page, for wider membership discussion. Wes Mouse | T@lk 10:08, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

Once we have a table for the participants, I think we should add 'Method of Selection' till the countries are allocated to semi-finals. What do you think? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.36.213.143 (talk) 20:33, 5 June 2015 (UTC)

Oppose: - this information is already noted on the individual country articles. Duplicating such information to this article is unnecessary. Wes Mouse | T@lk 07:32, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
Support – I reckon this is quite a good idea, as long as it's only a small note rather than a full explanatory note explaining, for example, the ins and outs of the Melodifestivalen system. I don't think many people would be interested in going to all 40-or-so pages to find out this information, and we can easily put it into a clean table arrangement. So I am in full support of this. – Hshook (talk) 08:25, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
@Hshook: this thread may need to be moved to WT:ESC as such changes will impact more than just Eurovision articles. There are other contests that the project covers, and if a consensus of support is to be gained, then airing the debate at the project talk page is a more appropriate venue. If support is achieved, then the project format guide would become updated. Wes Mouse | T@lk 10:06, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
@Wesley Mouse: – Good idea. Should I/we copy this conversation there, or is there another way to transfer it? (I haven't sone it before) – Hshook (talk) 10:09, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
I've taken the liberty and already carried out the talk page move of this thread. Wes Mouse | T@lk 10:19, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

Faroe Islands

Faroe Islands wants to participate. Maybe they should be included under "Require EBU Membership"?

Danish official Eurovision website has also picked up the story: https://www.dr.dk/event/melodigrandprix/nu-vil-faeroeerne-vaere-med-i-eurovision — Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.249.183.252 (talk) 09:53, 10 June 2015 (UTC)

Done Thanks for that! I added it to the article. – Hshook (talk) 11:46, 10 June 2015 (UTC)
Wiwibloggs isn't a viable source. Wikays (talk) 15:59, 10 June 2015 (UTC)

Czech Republic

The country will withdraw from the next competition due to low viewing figures and poor results. Especially, after the no qualification in the returning. CT says that. Jeanis12345, 10/06/2015, 20:09 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 37.6.244.99 (talk)

  • as this was their best result so far they might try again.84.213.45.196 (talk) 21:50, 10 June 2015 (UTC)
And Wikipedia is not a crystal ball! We need sources to verify these facts, before they will even get added to the article. Wes Mouse | T@lk 05:59, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
Are you working at CT ? Because I didn't see that information in any official website... Wikays (talk) 09:53, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
@Wikays: that is basically why I said above that we need a source, because there are none. Wes Mouse | T@lk 10:03, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
Moreover, they've got the best result since their début.... In my opinion, they won't withdraw :P Wikays (talk) 10:06, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

There's a typo in the name of ČT's program director. It's Milan Fridrich. source: http://www.ceskatelevize.cz/lide/milan-fridrich/ NguyenProjects (talk) 14:48, 14 June 2015 (UTC)

Turkey and Ukraine not confirmed

As I read through the sources which says that Turkey and Ukraine returns to the ESC 2016 I realize that the sources says nothing about an official confirmation for this. So I think that Turkey and Ukraine must be removed as confirmed countries. We have problems at the Swedish article where some users constantly put these countries back affirmed only because the English Wikipedia does. What do you others think of that? /Hollac16 (talk) 21:17, 11 June 2015 (UTC)

What happens at Swedish Wikipedia and English Wikipedia are entirely different. You'll find that most language Wikipedia do things differently and that neither articles will be the same. Attempting to get uniformity between the two will be a challenging task to endeavour. If there are doubts over the sources, then these two countries should be moved to the "other countries" section and the map updates. But then other Wikipedia's will also need to be updated, across the vast number of language articles. Wes Mouse | T@lk 06:04, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
I mean that Turkey and Ukraine should be removed to the "other countries" section due to that the sources they have now are not confirming them as participants for ESC 2016! /Hollac16 (talk) 14:00, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
Then be bold and make the alteration by moving them to the new section and update the map too. Wes Mouse | T@lk 14:29, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

norway could use internal selection

they are discussing who nrk should internally select on the norwegian forum.84.213.45.196 (talk) 17:55, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

Well let's just wait and see what NRK do. -- [[ axg //  ]] 17:56, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
I think this news report has just burst the IP's fantasy bubble of a Norway internal selection. Wes Mouse | T@lk 23:08, 22 June 2015 (UTC)
It's almost tradition now that someone posts that NRK are "in jeopardy" but nothing ever comes to fruition, norway`s participation is likely, but last year's effort was better. -- [[ axg //  ]] 23:39, 22 June 2015 (UTC)
@AxG: have you noticed a similarity between all three linked threads? The IP's are cunningly the same. Wes Mouse | T@lk 03:01, 23 June 2015 (UTC)

Montenegro

Go or no go? --PootisHeavy (talk) 22:32, 22 June 2015 (UTC)

  • @PootisHeavy: The source itself does say Montenegro is "questionable" and their participation is pending on a reply to a letter the delegation sent to the reference group regarding the annulment of Montenegro's votes in the final. I'd say Montenegro should be added to the "other countries" section for now, as this source does not confirm 100% confirmation of participation or withdrawal.
