Untitled[edit]

Could this edit conflict come to the end? Although Evelina Sašenko has Polish origins that doesn't make her "Polish singer". These categories are based by countries not by nationalities. Also, she sings in Lithuanian, Englih, French but not in Polish. Hugo.arg (talk) 17:20, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ewelina Saszenko does not only have polish origins. She's a Pole simply and I would like it to be written like that and not this strange 'origins/descent' words. Origins/descent is something i can have when my mother was f.e. english and my father german. But If I feel myself polish I'm polish and I'm a Pole of english-german origin/descent. Origins/descent is something like - a boy goes to USA from f.e. Germany (his parents are both german) and he falls in love with USA and starts to think of himself as American and thus he must be seen as American of german origins because he is an American but his origins are german. Ewelina is different. Ewelina Saszenko is a Polish singer from Lithuania - it should be written like that. Ewa Farna is similar. She's a Pole from the Czech republic. She has the category Polish singer in her article on wiki.

We should write also in that article that Ewelina is a member of polish minority from Lithuania, a minority that has been there from XIV century. --Adam Lutostański (talk) 01:46, 2 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

de-lithuanianise her name[edit]

If one reads here: http://kurierwilenski.lt/2011/04/29/eurowizja-reprezentantka-litwy-pod-nazwiskiem-w-transkrypcji-polskiej/

"Reprezentantka Litwy na konkursie Eurowizji Ewelina Saszenko, Polka z Wileńszczyzny, 10 maja w Dusseldorfie wystąpi pod swoim nazwiskiem w transkrypcji polskiej, a nie litewskiej..."

"Chcę, by moje nazwisko było pisane w oryginale, by wyglądało tak, jak właściwie powinno wyglądać” – powiedziała Saszenko..."

"Nie ukrywam, że jestem Polką,..."

Let's stop with this "Sašenko" nonsense, and make it permanently Saszenko. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.132.72.229 (talk) 02:28, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Of course she is polish. The same case like with Ewa Farna, which belongs to polish minority in Czech Republic. They both state that they are polish. But in Czech Republic there is no problem with that. The didnt change her name into "Eva Farná". But here we got legal question, lithuanian local law is breaking right of minority to have their names in official documents. But there is a need to describe people under their real names - so she is Ewelina Saszenko, not Evelina. In polish we don't use letter "v" and "š". Whatever it means - there is nothing about Sašenko. Second, if you read official Eurovision webpage (http://www.eurovision.tv/page/multimedia/videos?id=27343) it says "Evelina Sašenko will represent Lithuania in the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest in Düsseldorf (Germany), taking place on the 10th, 12th and 14th of May." Not only that her official name in passport is Evelina Sašenko, she also perform under this name. --Bearas (talk) 19:47, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Plus Do not need to act that she is only from Polish minority - she also Ukrainian. Also her webpage says: "About me: It was an impressive evening for Evelina Sašenko. Selected to take part in Eurovision Song Contest both by jury and televoters, she just stood there, wide-eyed..." Im sorry to say that, but this is fake problem, since her polish inscription added anyway (as well as Ukrainian, dont forget) --Bearas (talk) 20:02, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There is another polish website You can dig: http://m.onet.pl/rozrywka/muzyka,g7try - about her name. Official website is kinda a proof that she is not happy with her firstname written in passport: "ewelina.lt". It is not a fake problem, Lithuania is breaking minority laws to have their original names in officials document. For me, people have right to call them whatever they like, so if she decided to be Ewelina Saszenko - she has right to written in encyclopedia under this name. Andrzej19 (talk) 20:27, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I saw that You are not familiar with polish language. So I've decided to make you a small translation : " Nie ukrywam, że jestem Polką, gdzie wobec tego miałam szukać pomocy jak nie w Polsce" - that mean only one: "I dont hide that I am polish, so where I can find help if not in Poland". This fact is ending this discussion. Andrzej19 (talk) 20:32, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
So what It changes about her name? Her roots do not change her name. Once again quates from her own official website where she calls herself Evelina Sašenko: "It was an impressive evening for Evelina Sašenko."" Born into Polish-Ukrainian family, Evelina started singing solo at tender age of 6""Many Lithuanians found out about Evelina in 2009, when she took part in a successful TV contest for classical singers Triumfo arka""Gintaras Rinkevičius who asked Evelina to take part in several projects with Lithuania's State Symphony Orchestra.""Evelina first took part in national selection last year, coming third""Evelina was chosen to go to Dusseldorf and perform “C'est ma vie” - a mesmerizing ballad, perfect for showcasing her amazing vocal skills""A great improviser with countless high profile collaborations under his belt, Paulius constantly performs with Evelina in a number of various projects". Now is a real end of discussion. --Bearas (talk) 20:45, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
In Poland we don't use letter V. Lithuania is breaking minority law and forbid people to use their real names. It will be changed, because in modern europe there is no place for such law. She is forced to have firstname and lastname which aren't her. We don't have need to break human right on Wikipedia, so if she stated to be Ewelina - she can be. Article should be immediately moved under real her name. Andrzej19 (talk) 06:14, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
How many times I have to quote her own webpage where she call herself Evelina Sašenko? Does not look that she stating anything. She can perform under whatever name she wants and she still choose Evelina Sašenko as her stage name. --Bearas (talk) 07:06, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. She has website eWelina.lt and e-mail e.saszenko@ (posted on her website). In Poland we don't use V and š. Here You got another offical source: http://www.tvp.pl/rozrywka/festiwale-i-koncerty/eurowizja-2011/aktualnosci/ewelina-saszenko-na-eurowizji-pod-polskim-nazwiskiem/4423346 - TVP is a polish national television. There is written: "Chcę, by moje nazwisko było pisane w oryginale. By wyglądało tak, jak właściwie powinno wyglądać – odpowiedziała na sugestie, że jest to chwyt marketingowy lub demonstracja polskości. " - That means: I WANT TO WRITE MY NAME IN ORYGINAL VERSION. IT HAS TO LOOK LIKE IT IS IN CORRECT VERSION". Lithuania has not right to deny people use their original names. She want to be Ewelina Saszenko and that will be here. Andrzej19 (talk) 07:29, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If she would want to perform under her polish inscription name - she would, but she still performs under Lithuanian name. Whatever she wants to be written in her passport - that is politics which is not right, but in music - she choose Evelina Sašenko name and only poles have problem with her decision. --Bearas (talk) 07:43, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You dont deal with the facts. She stated that she want to be Ewelina Saszenko. I've given source for that. Poles (that is very rude and aggresive You write it with lowercase) want to respect facts. We are on neutral Wikipedia, so we don't have to deal with lithuanian rules. If You in country force people to abandon their real names, that is a problem of Lithuania, but we don't agree to transfer this problem onto english Wikipedia. For example another polish singer Ewa Farna, who is living in Czech Republic has her name (in Czech they don't use W as well). Andrzej19 (talk) 07:50, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Somehow you dont deal with facts too she still choose to perform under Sašenko name. If she will start perform under Saszenko name - the article could be renamed, but she still perform as Sašenko. She might not have possibility to write her real name in passport, but she can choose whatever she wants stage name and she chose Sašenko and still keep playing with that. Donny Montell, Nomeda Kazlaus, Sasha Son, Shorena Janiashvili (none of them is in correct Lithuanian) and others perform under whatever name they want in Lithuania while she still choose to perform under Sašenko name. --Bearas (talk) 08:03, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Where is she perfoming as Sasenko? Everywhere on Internet I found only correct form: Ewelina Saszenko http://www.wilnoteka.lt/pl/video/ewelina-saszenko-moj-swiat, http://kurierwilenski.lt/2011/10/21/ewelina-saszenko-%E2%80%94-ambasador-programu-%E2%80%9Eszkola-bez-przemocy-na-litwie%E2%80%9D/ . http://wyborcza.pl/duzyformat/1,127380,12144800,Bitwa_na_polskie_glosy.html - here is about that, lithuanian nationalists offend her, because she is polish. It is very sad, that lithuania is not respecting human right, but here we are free to call people like they want to be call. Andrzej19 (talk) 08:26, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
From her website about upcoming events [1][2][3]. From Eurovision [4]. In Project Žvaigždžių duetai [5]. All interview for other than polish media she gives as Evelina Sašenko [6][7][8][9][10][11]. Official music.lt page [12]. She won Queen of the Lithuanian Summer Hits Cup under name Sašenko [13]. She participated in Dacning with the stars under Sašenko name [14]. She participated in diena.lt interactive interview with viewers under Sašenko name [15]. Interview about upcoming concert [16]. I never saw her with other name except from polish wikipedians actually, that is why I don't agree rename article, since she perform under this name. --Bearas (talk) 08:57, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This is misleading due to lithuanian politics, which give lithuanian names even to people who never used it. Like "Adomas Mickievicius" - in Poland, it is totally unacceptaple. In every source beside of lithuanian, writing Mickievicius is an error. Because he was Mickiewicz. I think that she has e-mail on website - and we should ask how she wants to be describe here on english Wikipedia. This will solve everything. Andrzej19 (talk) 09:20, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Of course You lied to me. http://pl.wikiquote.org/wiki/Ewelina_Saszenko - what we can read here: "Saszenko piszę tylko w transkrypcji polskiej, przez „sz”, a nie „s” z dzióbkiem. Nieraz dostało mi się za to w Internecie. Ale nie zamierzam się uginać. Od pokoleń nazywamy się Saszenko. " - now we need to stop this and move article under right name. To Your knowledge I can translate: "Saszenko I write only in polish transcription, with "sz" not with "s" with spout. Many times I were beaten for that in Internet, but I won't break. From many generations we are Saszenko." Now the question is: Why You lied? Andrzej19 (talk) 18:17, 15 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Dont call me a liar when I gave references for all my words. Now I just confused with her, when she put everywhere "Sašenko" and then claims that its wrong. She shouldnt keep the names that she dislike in her own webpage. --Bearas (talk) 18:34, 15 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
