Fakery[edit]

This "reality" show pretends (via special effects) that the losers fall into a bottomless abyss, get frozen to death, get shredded by spinning saw blades, or drown. The references are based on press releases by the production company, and are thus not independent.Verifiability is not satisfied. The present article is not up to the standards of Wikipedia, due to being written in an "in-universe" and credulous tone. It should note the use of special effects and the overall fakery. I'm hoping we can add some mild language to the effect that they appear to fall into a bottomless cavern, or they appear to bwe killed in various other ways. Most viewers of the show and readers of the article will figure out that the mayhem and killings are simulated, so we do not have to belabor the point, since it would be like arguing stridently that the Tooth Fairy and Santa are not real. But we should not just parrot the show producers' press releases and articles based on them in an "in-universe" way, any more than we would parrot as descriptions of reality other "reality" TV shows. Central Casting or Real Contestants?[edit]

I've seen a few episodes and while it's fun, I have to wounder if they either find the most over-the-top, dumb and (in some cases) stereotypical people on the planet... or if they're from Central Casting.

I can't seem to find any place on SyFy's website to apply to be a contestant, so can anyone officially confirm or deny this? - Paula Bunion (talk) 03:39, 2 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
