Color[edit]

as a hybird of the Red Line and the purple of the Commuter Rail.

A saw an explanation elsewhere that indigo was chosen as a hybrid of blue and purple. Personally, I think it's used because it's purple by a different name. Any reliable sources? -- Beland 04:27, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why not rapid transit?[edit]

Why is the Indigo Line not proposing to build a separate rapid transit line, perhaps extending the red line, in much the way there's a proposal to extend the Green Line to Somerville/Medford along the existing commuter rail right of way? Is the Fairmount right of way too narrow to have three tracks (to keep one track available for commuter rail in addition to two tracks for a rapid transit system)? Line Map[edit]

The line map currently shows the NEC and Providence/Stoughton line branching off to the left and down just above Readville. I believe that if the Franklin line is going to be at the bottom of the map, the tracks to Providence branch off to the right and down, and the NEC tracks to South Station via Hyde Park, Back Bay, etc branch off up and to the left at Readville. The Readville station is right by where all the tracks come together for these splits; I don't know the station well enough to comment on whether having Readville station on the Franklin branch is correct. Providence/Stroughton connection/schedule[edit]

The article currently says "Most trains reverse direction at the south end at Readville, but a few continue onto the Franklin Line or Providence/Stoughton Line." While I don't doubt that the tracks will support trains continuing to either Franklin or Providence/Stoughton, I cannot find anything in the current MBTA timetables suggesting that there are any trains that stop both stations on the Fairmount line and stations on the Providence/Stoughton line. Train 901 departs from South Station, and its only stops are Canton Center and Stoughton; that appears to be the only Providence/Stoughton train that does not stop at Back Bay. Maybe train 901 makes this statement in the wikipedia article true (though it's not at all clear to me which route 901 takes from South Station to Readville), but unless I'm missing something in the MBTA timetables, I think this part of the article ought to be rewritten to be clearer. Night and Weekend Service[edit]

If the article is going to mention a lack of night and weekend service, it ought to comment on whether bus service is available during those times in the general areas near the stations on the Fairmount line. I suspect it may be, unlike most parts of the MBTA Commuter Rail system which covers areas that often have no bus service at all. JNW2 09:41, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
