The Charter of Secularism proposed by the Parti Québécois[edit]
The paragraph of this entry which deals with the Charter is politically biased. To say that the Charter would "strip people ... of the right" is tendentious at best. It would be more accurate to say that the Charter would have removed some religious privileges. Also, the Charter did NOT favour Catholics in any way. No specific religion was mentioned in the Charter. In particular, the crucifix in the National Assembly was NOT mentioned in the Charter. Furthermore, during the election in which the PQ was defeated, the Liberal Party, which vehemently opposed the Charter, adopted an explicit policy to retain the crucifix, while the PQ waffled on the issue.
Whoever wrote that paragraph needs to learn something about secularism, in particular the two traditions of republican secularism (which inspired the Charter) and Lockean secularism (which is a very weak form of secularism espoused by opponents of the Charter).
