Policy discussion in progress[edit]

There is a policy discussion in progress at the Manual of Style which affects this page, suggesting that the capitalization of "like" should be removed. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. — LlywelynII 17:47, 14 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@LlywellynII:Thanks for the invitation, I have just added my username to the list of the users who support the capitalisation. - Champion (talk) (contribs) (Formerly TheChampionMan1234) 02:46, 25 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Whose song is it anyway?[edit]

Users (most recently Champion) have moved this page from one artist to another, with various justifications. The latest is popularity, though other pages, like Torn (Ednaswap song) have favored the (obscure) original version's artist name rather than that of the better-known version. "Feels Like Home" is complicated by the fact that it was written by Randy Newman for Bonnie Raitt, yet the first recorded version was released by Linda Ronstadt. (It may be incorrect to say that it's the "first version," since Raitt and Newman likely sung it prior to Ronstadt.) Chantal Kreviazuk's version was released as a single four years after this, and thus able to chart, albeit not in any large markets. Unfortunately, arguing for any particular article name is difficult, as Wikipedia:WikiProject Songs is no help in resolving this. Since the song was composed for a musical, however, it might be best as "Feels Like Home (Faust)" or "Feels Like Home (Randy Newman's Faust)," similar to "Do You Love Me? (Fiddler on the Roof)." That at least is (relatively) neutral in terms of singer credit. Calbaer (talk) 12:12, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The relevant guidelines are Wikipedia:Naming conventions (music) and Wikipedia:Naming conventions (music)/Disambiguation, particularly WP:SONGDAB. It unequivocally says "Use the name of the performer who first published the song", so Champion's move (whose reason was "most popular recording of the song") seems to have been misguided in the first place and should be undone. Thank you for pointing those out. Note that they also say, You may include the name of the film or musical a song was released on ("Almost There" (The Princess and the Frog song)). Ronstadt, Newman, and Raitt all "published" in 1995 - and the Ronstadt album was out of print for years. Furthermore, the 1995 release was a remix of the Trio II recordings with Dolly Parton's vocals excluded! "Feels Like Home (Randy Newman's Faust)" seems like the best choice here, with Ronstadt being a close second. (Note the history shows the page moved from Newman to Raitt to Ronstadt.)
