Beginning edits for class

Hello, fellow Wikipedians! I will be working on this article as part of my Technical Editing class at my university. My main focus will be examining the lead for excessive detail that could be placed later in the article, reorganizing the order of some of the sections, and shaping the Notable Figures section to mirror that of the higher class articles on feminism in other countries, specifically Feminism in India. I would caution that changing "woman/women" to "female(s)" is typically unacceptable in feminist terms. Females are the members of species which typically have biology associated with ova and have been socialized to express feminine traits and characterisics, whereas women are only and ever, human. Nuns as gender rebels?

I find nuns being classified as gender rebels as problematic. If anything, nuns are the embodiment of marianismo, the chaste, pious woman. Arguments against women's suffrage in Mexico often centered on the perceived religiosity of women and the expectation that they would be politically conservative. Split to make the list of feminists a separate article?

The annotated list of feminists is a valuable addition to Wikipedia, but I am in favor of its becoming a separate article with a link to the Feminism in Mexico article. Amuseclio (talk) 16:00, 13 June 2019 (UTC)Amuseclio

Someone translated "la Raza" as "indigenous"; I've changed the translations to "Hispanic"

Translating "la Raza" as "indigenous" is not only lazy translation, but also inaccurate. "La Raza", especially in Mexico's context, specifically refers to the mestizaje. And mestizaje has a very problematic history, especially in its treatment of indigenous people. Indigenous cultures were seen as backwards and obsolete, and an impediment to Mexico's progress.

"La Raza" actually has a more or less anti-indigenous implication. Thus, translating it as "indigenous" ignores the history and concept of the term. And plus, translating "la Raza" as "Hispanic" is more consistent with other articles where this term appears, such as on G. Sofía Villa de Buentello's page.
