Notability[edit]

A while ago, I tried to start a few similar articles. Unfortunately, I was unable to find sufficient coverage in reliable sources to meet WP:GNG. In the end, I managed to start (and eventually keep) Adelphia (fancies), Greater Kensington (string band) and Pennsport (string band) to go along with the existing Aqua String Band and Holy Rollers N.Y.B.. All of these articles are constantly at risk. We need to add cites to independent reliable sources. Whatever you have, please add it. At the moment, this one is the weakest of the lot. - SummerPhD (talk) 02:00, 9 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm working on it more slowly than I'd like, perhaps, but when I'm done I think I'll have around 30 references. This group had two top-40 Billboard hits, I will add those references next to establish notability beyond doubt. When you tagged the article, It was pretty much in outline form, as I was developing what I thought it might/should look like when I am done. Thanks for you attention to this article, I hope you'll give it a thorough looking over when I am done, unless want to add to it simultaneously. All the best, 78.26 (I'm no IP, talk to me!) 13:37, 9 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
To be clear: If I had Google access to older sources that I know are out there (Inquy and Bulletin articles from decades back and such), I have little doubt we could create articles on many of the bands, brigades and associations with enough sourcing to keep them in place long enough to attract some organic growth. I don't have that kind of access. While I have access to an extensive database of periodicals, it's heavily focused on journals with some popular press mixed in. To find much else, I haven't much choice other than abusing my library access or killing an afternoon in some dusty archives. If you are aware of more user friendly resources, please share! (I'd especially like to beef up our crappy little articles on Frank Palumbo and Palumbos in addition to a bunch of Mummers Parade daughter articles I'd like to start.) - SummerPhD (talk) 20:31, 9 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'll admit I'm almost completely dependent on various sources found on Google, except for the Whitburn books which I already added. I'd say at this point I'm about 25% to 33% done, if that gives you any idea what it will look like when my "start article" process is finished. I don't know I can help you much regarding string bands/Mummers in general, as I have learned much about the subject by writing this article (as good of a reason to write articles, anyway, from my point of view.) I was prompted to write this article because I collect phonograph records, and Ferko discs from the 40s and 50s turn up frequently. I also happen to particularly enjoy their version of Ma (She's Making Eyes At Me) which as a DJ I have played at weddings. 78.26 (I'm no IP, talk to me!) 21:06, 9 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
