I really don't think so. At least for what I could recall from festas juninas. Brazil has its own "country music style" (Sertanejo) and this is the often the music played at these parties. --Pinnecco 09:31, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Citations, Formatting, and Coverage (oh my!)[edit]

Hello all / Olá gente,

This page covers a major aspect of Brazilian culture, yet it violates many of Wikipeida's Rules. It lacks various sources, and provides a lacking overview of the entire festival from a single source. It doesn't create a comprehensive collection of information about the tradition for an English audience, unlike its Portuguese version. There are no subsections that easily divide up the information, rather a single section of text that explores various aspects at once. There is little coverage about issues surrounding the Festa Junina of race and class interactions, the extensiveness at which it is celebrated throughout Brazil, and it's connections to Midsummer celebrations in Europe despite being during Brazilian winter.

I plan to correct these issues by introducing various sources, primarily academic texts, covering the Festa Junina, and reformatting the page entirely. Currently I am planning on adding a subsection on it's history, practices, and modern day criticisms. This will provide a greater understanding of the culture to any English speakers hoping to learn more, while doing justice to the "high-priority" this article has been given in relation to Wikipedia's coverage of Brazilian culture. Expect small changes to this page over time that will culminate in an entire overhaul of the article.

Just off the bat, the article is seriously lacking in everything that you said. It is also lacking separate sections, making it look like a giant lead to...? First, I think adding citations is a good first step, so that the article is no longer a stub and gets up to par with Wikipedia's guidelines. I think that covering everything that you wish to (history, practices, modern day criticisms) is a wonderful start to the additions this article needs. I would also say that concentrating on history and practices first may be the best way to begin. Understanding criticisms will be difficult if there is no base to begin forming ideas. Formatting is crucial to efficiently getting across this information. You make a good point; without a good introduction and foundation, these criticisms wont make any sense. I'll be sure to place an extra emphasis on that section, considering most readers will presumably be looking for general information on the tradition. It would look rather odd for someone to come to this article and learn all about why the Festa Junina is controversial...but not know what the Festa Junina is, haha. Thank you! It gives me great anxiety to just delete the information that is currently on the page, even though it has no real source, and it is stored in the history of the page. I don't think you should hold back from improvements. You can use the existing intro as the basis for your lead, but make sure to add citations if you have them, or delete info that is incorrect! Katherine.Holt (talk) 16:24, 5 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Kennedey Peer Review 2[edit]

I think this is a good start to fixing this article. First, there is a shorter lead, and actual sections now. However, right off the bat, the article is flagged because it has no references. I also think that there needs to be more wikilinks in the article. I think if you fix both of those issues, you will have a great first draft to the article!
