Copyright violation?[edit]

This page has been translated as per the request at WP:PNT#Fondation_Alberto_et_Annette_Giacometti (where I originally raised my concerns). The original in French ([:fr:Fondation_Alberto_et_Annette_Giacometti here]) was deleted as being a copyright violation, having been synthesised from various pages on the official website (here). I have continued to complete the translation, since it may be felt by some that at least some parts of this article are not copyright violations (e.g. the list of publications) so it may be inappropriate to delete the article wholesale.

As a translation of the French article, the copyright violation would normally be seen as transitioning into the English version too (roughly speaking, a translated work is subject to the same copyright rules as the original). However, in translating it, I've added several references and certainly the translation is not a direct copy-paste of the English version of the website. The question remains, then, whether some parts of the article would be considered within fair use or not subject to the website's copyright (e.g. the lede does nothing much more than it should, explain what the organisation is etc, so it could well be argued that really that is not th e kind of inforation subject to copyright).

Note: I did not do the original copy-paste of the French text, which was done on 10 November with the article's creation. Si Trew (talk) 12:54, 14 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for finding this issue. :) As we must be careful with copyright, I have simply rewritten the creative portions of the text. Since we don't rely on ordinary fair use allowances on Wikipedia, but instead are guided by WP:NFC, we need to make sure that the content is written from scratch. Hopefully, what's left can be used to build more. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 11:23, 2 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
