Fort Hancock/Sandy Hook[edit]

Fort Hancock is not part of Middletown Township —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.91.22.110 (talk) 17:57, 31 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Fort Hancock, according to Google maps, is located out on Sandy Hook. The article on Middletown, New Jersey includes a map showing that the township includes all of Sandy Hook. So, it looks like it is part of Middletown, at least the larger town if not the town center. If this is not right, please say so again but hopefully could you provide a reference? doncram (talk) 00:48, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • It may be within the boundary of Middletown Twsp., but it is not administered by the Twsp. It is, as noted in the article, a federal possession and is adminstered by the National Park Service. Shoreranger (talk) 00:37, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merging Battery Potter[edit]

I would vote for merging the Battery Potter material into the Fort Hancock article. It would make the Fort Hancock article more substantial. Also, the Battery is part of the Fort and not an independent installation. Acad Ronin (talk) 14:52, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. I just visited Ft. Hancock today, and, when you're walking from Officers' Row to the 9 gun battery, you pass right by, and can explore, Battery Potter. The park rangers even give you Ft. Hancock maps and information that contains and explains Battery Potter. I would say, from my experience, it is very much an integrated part of the Ft. Hancock experience. I am planning to improve this article along the lines of my work on Fort Hamilton, and I think that's a good suggestion. RobDuch (talk) 04:50, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I will also be including information on the Third System Fort Hancock.RobDuch (talk) 05:30, 16 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I've completed my expansion of this article, anyone still in favor/against merging Battery Potter? RobDuch (talk) 05:27, 20 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It seems that everything has been covered in the expansion. This page should be changed to a redirect to Fort Hancock, New Jersey. Jim Miller See me | Touch me 03:28, 21 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, had missed this. Yes, merging with a permanent redirect makes good sense. Anmccaff (talk) 22:04, 29 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

With Battery Potter being located inside Fort Hancock, I completely with the permanent redirect to this page. Juicebox244 (talk) 18:24, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The only thing I could recommend would be to find and include more pictures to give a better representation of the fort. Juicebox244 (talk) 18:26, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Third System Fort[edit]

The section of wall are not the only remains. The water tower at the Coast Guard Station is on a corner bastion. When I was there, someone doing research on the fort told me there was stone masonry in Nine Gun Battery. The section of wall survived because the Army built storage tanks for minefield control cables against it. 198.147.202.125 (talk) 19:36, 22 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
