Requested move 20 March 2015[edit]

The result of the move request was: not moved. However, I have placed hatnotes on each of the articles and changed the "Fort Hill, Boston" redirect to point here per the comments below. DrKiernan (talk) 10:55, 28 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Fort Hill, Roxbury → Fort Hill, Boston – An out-of-town author on a talk page for the National Register of Historic Places Wikiproject found the designation of Fort Hill as being part of Roxbury to be misleading, and I find the argument persuasive. Fort Hill is a neighborhood/historic district in the city of Boston, MA that comprises a part of the Roxbury neighborhood. Moving the page seems to be more consistent with naming conventions. Fort Hill, Boston presently redirects to Fort Point, Boston, which gives the history of a (now former) similarly-named yet different place on the Boston peninsula. There's a small argument that "Fort Hill (Boston)" ought to redirect there, since that would be the proper way to disambiguate a (now former) geographic feature, freeing up "Fort Hill, Boston". If the move is to take place, it needs to account in some way for both uses of "Fort Hill", via redirects and/or hatnotes. I have no strong feeling about this, but you should probably also post a pointer back to this discussion at Talk:Fort Point, Boston, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Massachusetts, and Wikipedia Talk:WikiProject Boston. Oppose - Fort Hill in Boston which is now known by the common name of Fort Point, and Fort Hill in Roxbury are very different places. While Roxbury is currently a neighborhood of Boston, it used to be it's own city/town. While confusion may be a problem, I don't see any way around it. Maybe putting a disambiguation page on Fort Hill, Boston which would allow for both to be represented, since one is in South Boston and the other in Roxbury which are both parts of Boston, but this article is correctly named.74.104.150.176 (talk) 22:31, 20 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the tip about posting this in Wikipedia Talk:WikiProject Boston, Magic. I'm still trying to figure out the ins and outs of the community here. Apparently there are opposing viewpoints and this merits discussion. I'm not sure I agree with For Hill redirecting to Fort Point. If you complete a simple Google search for Fort Hill Boston and scan the first 100 hits you'll see the vast majority point to Fort Hill in the Roxbury Neighborhood. The Wikipedia article for Fort Point is the lone high hit in the first 30 or so regarding the Fort Hill-Fort Point Boston connection. This imbalance suggest to me that the Wikipedia redirect to Fort Point is pointing people astray. Roxbury has been part of Boston for 150 years so this isn't a recent development. It seems to me like the starting point for the discussion should probably focus on whether there needs to be a disambiguation page or whether Fort Hill (Roxbury), should be moved in its entirety, with a mention as you suggest to the Fort Point page. Here's a question: there's a disambiguation page for Fort Hill. Would a possible solution be using it as the pointer to clarify the connection with Fort Point?
