Pere Marquette (train) article link incorrect[edit]

An editor made a link to the Pere Marquette train of Amtrak.

This is incorrect and misleading. The newer train serves an entirely different route, to Chicago, not Detroit. The referenced older mid-century train route in the table served a northwest-southeast trajectory. See the following timetable reference and note the spelling difference between the older Pere Marquettes and the newer train, lacking the "s." Note also this reference indicates the Grand Rapids-Detroit route. http://www.streamlinerschedules.com/concourse/track4/peremarq194706.html Dogru144 (talk) 08:35, 5 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Baltimore & Ohio trains did not operate from the station during main decades of the railway era[edit]

An editor noted a "contemporary description" in the late 1940s which listed several railroads, among them, the B&O as operating from the station. However, actual railroad timetable should override observations of contemporaries. As per the 1948 B&O timetable, that line actually operated out of the Michigan Central Station. You are both right:

I see a bit of confusion here. Actually the B&O tracks never came to Detroit.B&O trains to and from Detroit needed the "help" of another railroad to cover the distance between Toledo and Detroit. At times this was via the Pere Marquette Railroad prior to its merger with C&O. This was true at the time of the February 1938 issue of Official Guide to Railways, Page 377, Table 13 of the B&O section of that issue and several other locations as well. This says specifically that the access to Detroit was on "P.M.," usual abbreviation for Pere Marquette. P.M. Never used the MC or NYC station. This clearly was Fort Street Station. By July 1948, page 398 of then current issue of the Official Guide (and other locations) shows B & O trains accessing Detroit at Michigan Central Station. Michigan Central was, by then, a part of the NYC system. MC/NYC handled B&O trains between Detroit and Toledo. I don't have this next part on a document but I remember it happening, without remembering the exact date. I think it was in the very late 1950s. B&O and C&O, while then two separate corporations merged their passenger operations. By that time PM had become part of the C&O so naturally, B&O trains between Toledo and Detroit were back to Fort Street handled by now C&O via the same MC route as before out of Toledo, although the direct track to the Fort Street station was gone by then the trains took a slightly longer route via Plymouth. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.90.220.214 (talk) 19:26, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The B&O moved most of its operations from Michigan Central Station to Fort Street Union Depot in January 1964. See this bulletin from the C&O/B&O: http://streamlinermemories.info/Eastern/C&O64-1TTrevisions.pdf As you can see from the bulletin's timetable, the Cincinnatian was an exception, and that train continued to use Michigan Central Station. By 1966 that latter train was moved into the Fort Street station, as is evident on Table D here: http://streamlinermemories.info/Eastern/C&OB&O66-10TT.pdf</ref>Dogru144 (talk) 00:28, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
