External links modified[edit]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Fotografiska. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:

"Despite its name"[edit]

From the article:

Despite its name, it is not a museum because it has no collections, does not conduct research and is for-profit.

How "despite its name"? "Fotografiska" means "the photographic one". There is no mention of a museum. JIP | Talk 11:11, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Well, JIP, the last time I edited the article, it started (as it starts now): "Fotografiska (The Swedish Museum of Photography)". I'd hope that the English name came from its publicity and not merely from some editor's whim, but I don't know. I presume that some editor has thought:
  • This institution calls itself a museum.
  • In order to be called a museum, an institution must do at least one (or all?) of
    • Possessing a collection.
    • Conducting research.
    • Eschewing profits.
  • This institution fails on all three counts.
  • The name of this institution is deceptive and the reader should be warned of this deception.
I'm not saying that I agree with all of this (or even with any of it). I do note that Fotografiska's English-language "about" page currently announces: Fotografiska is the largest photography museum in the world. -- Hoary (talk) 13:02, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
