Later Career[edit]

As far as I know he retired from professional competition after the Tokyo Olympics but subsequently competed at the 2022 World Human Powered Speed Challenge in Battle Mountain, NV, riding the Altaïr 6 streamlined recumbent bicycle for the IUT Annecy team. The bike was pretty much destroyed when it suffered a punctured rear tyre at ~ 85 mph but François escaped without serious injury and said he hopes to return for the 2023 running of the event.
