about the father of Frank, Fred and Isabel Butters[edit]

Joseph Butters, started as a jockey in Austria. He rode the winner of the Austrian Derby 1875 Przedswit/POL with whom he also won the Großer Preis von Baden in Germany. His first major success as a trainer was in 1882 when he won the Fürstenberg-Rennen, which he had won as a jockey in 1880. In 1899 he was the trainer of Galifard/HUN with whom he won the German Derby. Joseph Butters was married to Janet Waugh, daughter of trainer James Waugh (1832-1905)
