Dispute with Maxine Hong Kingston[edit]

I'm not sure how we should handle his long-running "war" with Maxine Hong Kingston, but I'm sure that the present approach (complete omission) is wrong. See, for some basic discussion of this, Sara Solovitch, Finding a Voice, San Jose Mercury News, June 30, 1991. He was brutal in writing about her early work; her third novel Tripmaster Monkey is generally considered a response in the form of a roman a clef about him (see in particular Solovitch's remarks on page 2 of the same article). I've read the book, and the resemblance seems to me, also, to be beyond question.

Any suggestions? - Jmabel | Talk 03:04, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A useful source[edit]

There is a 1970 interview with Chin, with many elements of biography, p. 305–311 in Judy Yung, Gordon H. Chang, and Him Mark Lai (compilers and editors), Chinese American Voices, University of California Press (2006). ISBN 0520243102. I recommend it to whoever is working on this article. - Jmabel | Talk 03:08, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Surname[edit]

If his Chinese surname is 趙 (Mandarin Zhào), why is his English surname Chin, rather than Zhao or Chao? According to Zhao (surname), one variant (apparently Cantonese) is Chiu; could it be somewhere in his family history Chiu got misspelled or misread as Chin? Photo[edit]

I added a photo to the article. This File:FRANK&GUITAR1975.jpg is another option.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 19:28, 28 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
